"According to the Utica Observer-Dispatch, Middlefield in Otsego County was named in a lawsuit last Thursday by farmer and president of the Cooperstown Holstein Corp., Jennifer Huntington. Huntington has entered into leases with natural gas companies to allow drilling on her property. But in June, Middlefield enacted a zoning law that does not allow for drilling. The second lawsuit was filed last week against the town of Dryden in Tompkins County by Anschutz Exploration Corp. and is challenging an updated zoning law adopted in August that does not allow fracking, the Observer-Dispatch said."

Interesting legal case.  Very few small communities have the money to risk fighting a lawsuit.  It will be interesting to see if any other parities come to the city's aid to pay their legal bills. No matter which way the law is decided it's another bad PR move for the industry ("BIG OIL SUES SMALL TOWN!")

Hummm Sesport, did you notice that this "news" site seems to be a sales platform for lawyers?  Check out the list of topics on the left of the screen - now hit refresh and watch a box come up with a live person offering to chat with you - then there is the little ad for personal injury lawyers that slides into the bottom of the screen.  Fascinating.

This news site (because there is news on the site) lures potential clients to lawyers.  ALL of the news items are  about lawsuits.  All kinds of lawsuits.  Interesting.  I haven't seen a site like this before.  It's designed to catch people, show them news to rile them up and then pop up an ad to speak to a lawyer.  I bet they are making them for landowners/neighbors of natural gas drilling.

Thanks for posting this site.  It's a brilliant place to recruit clients for class action suits.  It it Ethical?  hummm ...
