We own property in S10, T15N,R14W. I have heard that Chesapeake has shut in all the wells it bought this year from Camterra because there were some issues with the gathering lines. Does anyone know anything about this?

That sounds like hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which can be very poisonous and toxic.

Thanks FXEF.  I'll let my cousin know, if he smells it again, it might not be safe.

By the way, my cousin just called and said there was an alert on TV that said Chesapeake was working on pipelines west of I-49 and south of Colquette Road, and not to be alarmed if there is loud noise in that area for a few days.

Oh, now I remember, my cousin told me it was hydrogen sulfide.....  I only remembered him saying it smelled like rotten eggs.  Anyway, he used to work for a petroleum plant, so he was already familiar with the dangers of H2S.  ....   I just spoke with him a few mintues ago, and he confirmed that the smell didn't last very long......   thankgoodness!

We finally got a call from someone at CHK. She was not very forthcoming, but the following are the points she did make:

  • The problem is with a pipeline (The Trace Gathering System) -- She claimed ignorance as to whether there is a leak or leaks, or insufficient size, etc.
  • At first she said 10 wells were shut-in.  Then she said at least 10 sections -- She would not tell me which sections
  • She did not know if the pipeline would be fixed or replaced or partially replaced
  • They are hoping the wells will be shut-in for less than a year, but they always send a shut-in pmt for an entire year
  • They have started working on the problem

That's all we got in the conversation.

Dear Mack,

Thank you for your amazing perseverance-you are a Hero!

It is responsible of CHK to be proactive in closing down the system. It would have been commendable if they had made an earlier announcement-maybe on this site-and/or included a reason in their letters to The Lessors/Last-to-know-ers.

Linda, what a good thing your cousin heard the TV announcement! Wonder when that was and which station?

The MSDS (courtesy of Phillips 66) is informative. But I'm an ignoramus about such.

CypressKnees,

Don't know, but I'll try to find out...

CypressKnees,

It's on Comcast Channel 201(ABC-KTBS Mega 3).  Today it says "Chesapeake Pipeline Modification."  A few days ago the message included there would be loud noise in the area west of I-49 and south of Colquette road.    ....  The notification is located at the bottom of the screen along with other messages of interest.

Thank you, Linda! And your cousin!

What do you suppose causes the loud noise?

Might be when they de-pressure (heard somewhere that's what they do!), but I'm not sure.  .....  Anybody else out there know the answer to CypressKnees question?????
