There a number of AC related leases in the July auction, not just in Rapides.  If Hydro can manage it, fine.  If not I'll give him a hand.

Re: Rapides Parish AC production

The observations by David as to the older AC production in Rapides Parish underscores the issues with the AC play "then versus now". The historical AC play was based on drilling wells to tap into natural fractures. High rates the norm but depending on the extent of the fracture system, production would drop off quickly. Think about a large inflated balloon and how quickly air is released when it is opened up.

In the "new" AC play, the rock is cracked up using fracture stimulation to release the O&G in the pore space in the rock. If there is sufficient porosity and perm in the AC, this can give you some very good wells IF the wells are properly drilled into the correct landing zone and the wells are properly cased and then frac'd.

There are a lot of issues with this new approach but the biggest one IMO is that the AC has to have sufficient porosity and perm to contain volumes of O&G that can be frac'd and produced. If the AC has low P&P, frac'ing won't give you much of anything.

This is why the study of old AC wellbores and getting rock / core info is critical in this play (and EOG are very good at this approach)

I looked at some of the old Rapides Parish Austin Chalk wells drilled in the 90's.  A lot of them started out really great, but did not continue producing at such a high rate for long.  If you look back on the Sonris site and check these well serial numbers, I think that you will be impressed with how they started out: 218531, 218683, 219142, 220704, 222932, 223431 (all masters creek) and 220280 (cheneyville)  There were a lot more that did pretty well, too.  Maybe with the new technology the Austin Chalk could now be successful.

robert, I think that the well to which you are referring is Serial Number 247261 (link to well file below).  This was a dry hole which is being converted to a Salt Water Disposal (SWD) well.

If there is a new producing TMS well in Rapides I'm sure the state would like to know about it as there is no record in the state database for the well mentioned in the LOGA report.  If there was a new TMS well it would be on the Tuscaloosa Trend Blog.  It's not.
