I am changing the focus of the Snapshot Township Grid Map. I will continue to maintain a running total of HA/JUR units by township but will include Drilling Unit applications and orders wherever I find Cotton Valley and Lower Cotton Valley units which include the HA zone. Those CV/LCV units will never receive a HA unit application although HA wells will be drilled in those sections. If you notice a township total which has increased significantly, this change is the reason. Sections 4-6 to EOG, 7-9 to Chesapeake, 10,14-23, 25, 27-33 to SWEPI and 36 to Petrohawk. The northeast corner of 11N - 12W (including Sections 2 & 11) match up with other sections lacking unit orders in the adjoining townships (12N - 12W and 11N -11W) representing an area that is probably the Dolet Hills Lignite Mine leasehold. Maybe we should start a pool to see what area within the HS Play will be the last to be developed. The lignite mines or urban Shreveport-Bossier. Just kidding Keith! LOL!

Skip, our interests are S35 T12 R12 in the midst of lignite mine territory. Is there something sacred about this area as far as drilling is concerned?Joe B.

Joe. Nothing sacred that I am aware of, just complications from existing lignite leases. I suspect that the coal companies have not received sufficient incentives to cooperate in the development of the HS and their leases give them the legal upper hand. I am unaware of any practical prohibitions to drilling two mile deep horizontal wells under the coal seams even if pipelines must be restricted to areas already mined and reclaimed.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
