Has anyone had any first hand experience with the HSLA or Mr. Johnson? The HSLA website gives the impression that this is a landowner advocacy organization supported by dues but then solicits individuals and groups to pay percentages of bonuses and/or royalty in exchange for the organization's or Mr. Johnson's assistance in acquiring a mineral lease.

I found that website sometime back in '08 during the initial frenzy of city-led meetings and section/neighborhood organizing. I stayed away from it for precisely the reasons you state, percentage of bonus and/or royalty. I'm a quick learner. Stubborn to a (small) fault, but quick. ha, ha 80)

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
