Cannie, I've been thinking the same thing as you, that Exco/Winchester will want to take advantage of the leases they have. I'm in a section that is smack in the middle of drilling by J-W to the north of me and Winchester (I guess, now, Exco) to the south. I'm unleased, so I'm a little on edge, wondering what will happen.

You'll see a large number of new locations reported by Exco. They are all reported to be Cotton Valley wells, so I don't know what they may plan to do about drilling HS wells. Maybe this company isn't positioned to be able to do horizontal wells?

I'll be curious if anyone else weighs in on this.

M. McWilliams, here is what EXCO has posted via an SEC filing. It lists 3 HS wells (horizontals) for 2008 and 17 verticals. The Cotton Valley formation has been doing well in the sections I'm in. Seems like a no brainer to exploit the areas that they already have a leasehold in. But I'm in the NG distribution business up here, not exploration. Kinda nice, my company may be buying NG from me!

I overlooked your mention of their SEC filings regarding plans for horizontals. I'll have to take a look at the filings later on. Interesting info, certainly. Thanks. I've been given an Exco contact person's name, to call to determine interest, so it helps to know this.

EXCO just completed a vertcal well in sec16 t15n r14w. serial #238403 ( Hall Family) The TD is 12,100 feet.

Interesting... perhaps a Haynesville Shale depth check for the area. Perhaps it may be converted to a horizontal at a later date.

Some smaller operators drill vertical through the shale just like they would a CV well. They frac it along the vertical and get whatever gas it lets go of. I was at a well off Keithville Springridge Road just before the frac job and it was done this way. The shale was a little over four hundred feet thick at that location and TD was around 12,000 ft also. (not an exact figure)

We own land in De Soto and got a letter from Bob Pedersen that they petitioned the state of Louisiana for 8 wells in the Shaynesville play, but that they are trying to get as many acreage leased as possible and concentrating on that right now instead of production. Don't know but sure would like to see some division orders in the mail.

Deb, I too received the pre-app and application notices from Bob F. Anderson on behalf of EXCO. The latest well (Oden #6H) looks very impressive. Lets hope they drill more of those in 2009. Our land is in Sections 12, 13, 24 and 25 T14N-13W. Is your land close by?

I see that the Oden #6H looks very impressive. Is your land HBP?? HELD BY PRODUCTION BY EXCO??

We signed lease with Long Petroleum and they sold out to Exco.

Deb, yup, we are indeed HBP. How 'bout you guys? Did I read in a earlier post that you are out of town owner as I am? Things will get better when the NG price goes up.
