The Big Three Shale Gas Plays

Attached is a chart that shows the combined production rate of the currently three largest shale plays (Barnett, Fayetteville & Haynesville) in terms of production.  Their combined production now exceeds 10 billion cubic feet of gas per day (equivalent to 1.7 million barrels of oil per day).

 

The second chart shows how the production growth rate of the Haynesville Shale has far exceeded those of the other two shale gas plays.

too bad Pennsyvania doesn't release data, it would be nice to see the marcellus info...

I was working up in NE PA for over a year up until 2 months ago. Right before I left, I believe the PA DEP had started requiring production reports from all operators. Now I'm not sure if they are of public record but I do believe monthly production is now being recorded.

The well is still producing oil or at least it was when I visited a few years ago.

To clarify, Pennsylvania does require reporting of oil and gas wells and production.

however. All data is by PA law held confidential for five years. Well logs are not public data either.

Your right Baron. I forgot that it was just held confidental for 5 years which brings me to another issue. When I was up there working, I kept hearing from a bunch of company men that the decline rates of the marcellus wells were far less than what they thought they were going to be. Anybody hearing the same thing?

i totaled the marcellus production for the 12month period of july '09 and june '10 and came up with 194,558,961 mcf which gives roughly 533,000 mcfd, or 533mmcfd average daily production, if i'm doing the conversions right

it's not as helpful for comparison as the chart but gives an approximate idea of where they're at right now.
