Austin Chalk in Louisiana: including Avoyelles, Rapides, Pointe Coupee, Florida Parishes, East Baton Rouge, Vernon

Horizontal drilling, improved seismic testing,  and liner casing are offering new hope for the deep minerals in parts of the Austin Chalk which runs from near Austin, Texas through the middle of Louisiana to Biloxi Mississippi. 

In 1995, the USGS determined that the Austin Chalk is one of our Nation's largest, onshore domestic unconventional, continuous-type oil resource. More recently, exploration and production in frontier areas of Texas and Louisiana have shown that the Austin Chalk has additional potential as a continuous-type deep-gas resource mostly to the east and downdip of existing oil plays.

Over a decade later, now leasing and drilling activity is picking up in certain parishes of Central Louisiana following improved technologies.

Give it some time and they will be back. It just hasn't got here yet. The courthouses in Avoyelles, Vernon, Allen, Evangeline and Beauregard are all loading up with landmen.

Most of the area has Wilcox and Tuscaloosa. We are hot into Wilcox across most of the parishes I listed.

Don't know if you guys had seen this, but pretty interesting horizontal Alts approved in Moncrief Field for AUS Chalk.

Austin Chalk members should note bids for Tract 42066 in Vernon Parish.  This is what you want to see.  Competition!  Anadarko bids $314/acre and 22.5% and loses out to Swift with a bonus of $1,211.50 and 25%.  You could use at least one more bidder to make for more uncertainty by those already bidding but this is a good start.  I don't know where the bonus offers will go from here but I'd say this is strong confirmation that a quarter royalty should be the standard in this Play.  Thanks, Joe.
