Obama to Highlight Domestic Energy Sources in State of the Union

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will encourage the country's booming natural gas output in his State of the Union address on Tuesday, while defending his administration's energy record, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Obama was expected to devote a significant portion of his speech slated for 9 p.m. EST Tuesday calling for a "new era for American energy," which will include promoting domestic natural gas production, according to documents provided to Democratic party sources.

say what?  i can't hear you over the deafening cognitive dissonance.  i'll get my hearing checked soon as i get my free health care.

I believe I heard Alternative in that speech somewhere!  He hates the O & G industry!  If he did open it he would still have his EPA shoving out more regulations to stop it. Why else would he have been against the Pipeline coming out of Canada that would have created thousands of jobs instantly unlike all of his so called shovel ready jobs?  It is all political with Obama and his lies!

I believe Boone Pickens has some of the best foresight for a sound energy plan for our country.  And, he will likely be very vocal on which candidate he believes best supports his ideas.  I'm not really interested in more decades of "lip service" where the words "energy independence" make good buzz words in the State of Union addresses.  Energy independence, national security, JOBS!, and clean oil/gas technologies can do wonders for our nation on all fronts.  Frankly, I'm very tired of inaction.

Fully realizing this is a political issue, I am curious re your opinion on this so long as we can keep the discussion on policy in a thoughtful discourse.

well, if a politician says he'll/she'll do one thing... believe they will do just the opposite!  jhh

It seems like his timing is impeccable. On the day he wants to promote shale gas, marcellus reserve estimates are down.

Keith, I thought the same.  Also, he states we have 100 years of supply which was based on the old reserve estimates.  I'm guessing with the drop we are now no where near that 100 year mark.  With regards to the oil sand pipeline I find it funny that people, mainly environmentalists, don't want it yet without it you have to.......drill more wells LOL.  If anything they should be happy about a simple pipeline that cuts the need for MORE wells.  Talk about cutting off one's nose to spite their face...my gosh.

and, stopping the pipeline does not stop the production (which many of the detractors would love to see) it just shifts the refining jobs elsewhere, to boot.

Obama has talked about a lot of things...but the proof will be in the pudding...which of course we haven't seen much of thus far..

This issue shouldn't be "If Elected"..I'll....blah..blah..blah..

He should be on right now!

If he is interested in energy independance why not let the pipeline from Canada come on down?  He lies and lies this guy never had an origional idea in his whole life.

so many jokes, so many ways to get moderated.  oh well.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling
