I think TxDOT has been using LNG or compressed gas in their pickups for years... maybe it is propane. Not sure where they are on this today. They had fillin station at most of their district offices... at least in the big cities. jhh
Propane is removed from field gas at gas processing plants, and has a much higher BTU content than pipeline quality natural gas. It is also useful as a feedstock for various petrochemical manufacturing processes, and as a result I think is similar in cost to gasoline. In a properly tuned engine, it does burn cleaner than gasoline. I think a lot of the propane vehicles folks remember were from the pre-efi days, and my recollection is that they didn't perform well in cold weather due to liquification of the propane. Additionally, the engine tuning was a bit problematic. Modern oxygen sensors and fuel computers eliminate most of these issues.
Dbob, the pretax wholesale price of propane is ~ 50% of crude oil but normally is ~ 70% of crude oil. Of course the retail price is well above $2.00 per gallon.
Motor gasoline has an average energy content of 124,238 Btu per gallon while propane has an energy content of 90,875 Btu per gallon.
Look up natural gas compared to propane on ASK.com and you will find out that Natural Gas is 20% propane. Propane has almost twice as many BTU as Natural Gas.
An engine run on Propane fuel will go at least twice as long between oil changes as a gas fueled engine.
Ben, natural gas generally contains less than 1% propane and over 95% methane. You can check the current gas composition of most major interstate gas pipelines by going to their websites.
They wont be able to build them fast enough. Its going to catch on in a big way..
For reference light duty vehicles such as cars and passenger trucks burn compressed natural gas (CNG) while large heavy duty trucks can burn either CNG or liquified natural gas (LNG).
Come to Long Beach in May and you will see example of both types of vehicles.
PRAYING FOR A DRASTIC CHANGE IN NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!!!! Folks this is important.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
