"Anadarko Petroleum Corp. said it has opened a liquids-rich play in the Carthage area of East Texas in the quarter ended Mar. 31.

The company said it has identified a net resource estimated at 300 million bbl of oil equivalent with more than 350 drillsites in the Haynesville shale and 100 in the Cotton Valley formation. The company plans to operate as many as eight rigs and drill 75 horizontal wells in 2012. It operated seven rigs in the first quarter.

Anadarko and MarkWest Energy Partners LP, Denver, in March concluded long-term gathering and processing agreements to support a 120-MMcfd expansion of MarkWest’s Carthage East cryogenic processing plant in Panola County, Texas. Expansion to 400 MMcfd is to start up in early 2013"

has anyone seen a map of the area Anadarka is focusing on? Is this the same reservoir Indigo is drilling in southwest Caddo

KCM, although both Indigo and Anadarko are both targeting the Cotton Valley the plays are not physically connected.  Also, Anadarko's liquid play also includes the Haynesville Shale while Indigo's does not.

Les, several months ago I had heard the rumor from a friend who has a friend at Anadarko who said they had discovered a liquid play in the Haynesville. No one could believe the Haynesville had liquids, so it was a dead end subject. Then got the link I posted emailed to me this morn. Wonder if this liquid play in the HA will extend into western LA

with 350 drill sites for HS.  It sounds like it will extend quite a bit beyond Carthage.  Interesting to watch where.

Seems like if any other companies have proven reserves in liquids in the HS they would be touting them too.

Parker, not all HA operators are publicly held companies.  So, y'know, maybe some of da little fishmongers wanna kinda keep a lid on it for now.

Or maybe there's more to the story than many know.

Cousin I have a little acerage over that way inherited from my grandfather. I hope you are right in your assumptions.

Bobi, that would be equivalent to about 28,000 acres or a 6.6 mile square.

KCM, below is a link to a discussion with additional information from Anadarko.  Some of far northern area of the Haynesville Shale play in Louisiana is a shallower depth and contains some liquids but has other geologic challenges.  The Anadarko play is unlikely to extend into Lousiana as the Haynesville Shale becomes deeper to the east from the Anadarko area.

Well.....darn.  Guess that's why we haven't heard any other companies bragging about their HS liquids.

How disappointing that it won't extend into LA. We can always hope

Does anyone have better specifics on this.  The article says the Carthage area.  South of Carthage... north... west or east.  I've been searching other sites but can't find anything more location specific.  Thanks, jhh
