All drilling rigs work 24/7 year round.

A rig has multiple crews per rig, with two or three shifts per day. Most companies I am familiar with have two daily shifts of 12 hours straight. That is two crews onsite at a time, one on, one off. They may rotate out over time (three weeks on, one off, etc...)
