I started to count up the rigs drilling HA wells in NW LA and E TX last week but it was unclear to me which E TX rigs were drilling HA and which may have been drilling CV. Unless they are drilling a well listed as a Carthage Gas Unit, I can't be sure. If I get the time I may try again with this Friday's rig report.
There are nine drilling HA in Tx. (one vertical). All of the operators in Panola, Rusk & Harrison today, other than Anadarko and Valence, are drilling CV or shallower. If it's a hz. well and someone other than APC, EOG, XCO or XTO, it is probably a CV well except that Chevron is still drilling hz. Travis Peak.
And 17 in NW LA makes 26. How many of the TX wells are HC, or SA?
No new permits yet, in A. Spear, but XTO has started drilling EnCana acreage up FM 1277 abt. 3 miles toward town. Check my XTO well status page in the San Augustine Group and I'll try to keep the permits updated as they appear.
Are there any rigs drilling in Harrison County? And would you know what sands or zones they are drilling for?
Thomas, 5 rigs running in Harrison. 2 - BP America, and 1 each by Samson Lonestar, Valence Operating and Sabine Oil & Gas. My weekly rig report doesn't report the target horizons. Maybe Julie will have time to look up the individual well permits.
adubu, IMO there is no reason for an operator to offer their best terms until they are ready to commence development. In regard to the HS there will be some cushion for those taking new leases on relatively limited areas that don't require near term action to HBP. I think most in the industry expect that NG will see incremental price improvements over the next 12 to 24 months. E&P companies are always looking years ahead.
There is risk to be considered by all parties. If you lease at a good bonus but a low royalty and the flipper can not find a willing operator prior to expiration of the lease term, you get a good result. However if you wait and risk the bonus and the flipper is successful in assigning their leases to an operator that company will look to clear up any open acreage before they commence development. And will likely be willing to offer a better royalty.
Of the 17 in LA, 9 are HC or Cross Unit Laterals. Adjusting for longer laterals the 9 are roughly equal to 13.5 of the HA 1.0 wells drilled in 640 acre units.
All of the wells (6) in San Augustine & Shelby are over 7,000' so that's something like 9 of the old wells @ 4,500'. One of those six is planned as 7,800' which pushes that up a little. APC is doing longer laterals also but they aren't pushing the really long laterals, as a rule. They are more in the ~5,000' to ~6,000' range, I'd estimate. A few may be a little longer. It's hard to compare Tx. units to La. units and the co.s in the lower counties are dealing with vast undeveloped acreage whereas APC is dealing with a well developed area with many small-ish weirdly shaped units that were built to accommodate vertical wells up in Panola Co. so they don't always have as much room to move even with cross unit laterals.
Good synopsis. The average length of perforated HA lateral per well has increased significantly. If we also included horizontal CV wells I think the number of rigs running would be surprising to some.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
