Hey Army!

We've had some big news in the past few weeks and I wanted to share some of the biggest news with you today. American Electric Power Company, one of the major suppliers of electric energy in the United States, has signed on to the Pickens Plan to help us push for a 21st Century transmission grid.

AEP operates in 11 states and owns the nation's largest electricity transmission system -- so they are a key part of realizing our vision for wind. To bring more renewable energy to market, we must have transmission.

The Chairman, President and CEO of American Electric Power is a good friend and a very smart guy named Mike Morris. I want to introduce him to you because he gets it. And, because AEP has over 5 million customers, they get it, too.

Mike, say a few words to the 1.4 million members of the New Energy Army.

Thank you Boone. At American Electric Power we support a more diversified and domestic-based energy supply mix, increased energy efficiency and greater investment in new energy technologies. Energy will play a central role in our economic recovery and support for modernizing our electric system is stronger than ever. We know that as alternative energy sources continue to come to be harnessed, we will need a smarter, modern and more efficient transmission system that can move that energy from where it is being produced, often in remote locations, to where it is needed at any given time. Imagine meeting the high demand for electricity on a hot summer day in New York with power that includes wind from Kansas and a few hours later shifting that power to meet the same needs in southern California. We can't do that today. We will only be able to do this if we modernize our transmission grid.

We want to be able to continue to deliver electric power where it is needed, when it is needed as efficiently and cleanly as possible. This is not only good business, for AEP, but it is good for America as we all work together to rebuild our economy. Boone?

Thank you, Mike. The Pickens Plan is much stronger for having partners like AEP. The Army is marching forward along a broader front because AEP is on board.

Yes. It's called lightning. Couldn't resist. Thanks for all your time helping others.

Actually, I just watched a documentary on Tesla a few weeks ago, and wireless electricity was his greatest hope. If you look him up I'm sure you'll learn about his wooden tower/transmitter that was an attempt to do this.
Robert --
I'm afraid you are wrong about wind power. Scientific American published an article on this topic 7 or 8 years ago. True the wind does not blow 100% of the time at a given geographic location. That's one of the reasons you need an extensive transmission grid to make it work. However, a swath of land, extending East to west from central Texas into eastern new Mexico, and extending up to North Dakota is capable of suppling the entire US electrical demand.(and where does Mr. Pickens plan he wind farm to be built?) Period. Some back up generation capacity may be required for local peak loads. Wind power expensive? yes. But we've only been working seriously on the technology for electrical generation by wind for the past two decades. Before you condemn wind power, wait until we have invested 10% of the effort in developing steam power into wind power. It will be much cheaper when we reach that point.

If you disagree, please give document citations for the basis of your claims.
Jim:

I didn't realize that Prince Charles was an expert on global warming.

Jim:

The same Prince Charles that blew off Diana Spencer in favor of the Phyllis Diller look alike..:-)..that Prince charles???
Robert - How can it be a political ploy when scientists are, at this very minute, documenting data that demonsstrates that the ice at the Artic Circle and glaciers in Greenland are melting? Scientists are collecting data that shows that the temperatures of the Atlantic currents, from Greenland south to FLA, are increasing? And, forgive me, I'm not following, what does climate change have to do with "one world order?"

Thanks for your time - :0)
Robert what do you think it costs to replace the bearings on a coal fired generator? I can agree to some areas of your posts. I wouldn't doubt that if the gov had anything to do with building the wind plants that they probably bought the bearings from China for 2 bucks and charged them off at costing 200 grand.
Coalbed Methane, I say set off a small nuke in coal thats deep underground, nuke fracing of coal, then drill in a couple of years. You don't have to use nukes just large charges of whatever to do the frac, not water.
The idea of man-made global warming is a hoax designed to empower those who support big government.

Cap and trade as proposed by Obama is the point of the spear. We need to defeat cap and trade and vote the scoundrels out of office that support it.

I hope we can hold these libs off until the 2010 mid term elections.

The good news is that the poll numbers for Obama are trending downward. His net favorables have declined 10 points over the past 2 weeks (Rasmussen). As more people become informed about his FY 2010 budget I believe that his numbers will continue to decline. That's a good thing. The man is dangerous.
Ice is melting at the North Pole and building up at the South Pole. Seems to be some sort of inbalance in between. I wonder if the Earth has turned more toward the Sun in the northern hemisphere. No one wants to look at the easy explanation, they just want to blame someone, everyone involved in the blame game seems to have an agenda. If the next ice age started next week you can bet someone would blame big oil or coal or Santa Clause. Me, I will make a prediction, it came from the dark side of the force, the evil one, the one who walks in the shadow of those that cast stones at truth, justice and the American way.
Sun spots?

There are people in every generation that believe their's is the last.

I've read lately that the weather is getting colder. Has anybody noticed that the global warming crowd is now the climate change crowd. Want to guess why?

Every time Algore has had a rally on global warming lately there seems to be some weather event that mocks him.

The irony is delicious.
JM - I don't know where you read yours, but I'll share some of what I've read.

I'm not being extremist, just realistic. Can't remember when the last time was that I had to pull out my down-filled winter coat around here. When was the last time we've had significant snowfall? How many of the last several summers I've been watering the heck out of the lawn due to drought in June, when we used to get torrents of rain?

IMHO - sesport :0)

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
