Did anyone sign a mineral lease in the shale for only a couple hundred per acre?

If so, I'd like to hear your story. I'm a reporter for The Shreveport Times. Please call me at 318 459-3266. Thanks

Two words...Due Dilegence

Always read and UNDERSTAND what you sign. If you don't understand ask someone you know and trust!

Don't complain when you fail to do your own reasearch and sign somthing that you thought protected you and did not.
KB, look at a landmans pay as that of a directional driller. Some landmen are over paid and the drillers have problems also.
Mr. Krow,

Early on this morning, I provided the name of the landman and the company that he represented to all those that asked.
Hey, the reporter guy just wants a story. If you want your story part of it , then give it to him, other wise, why give the guy a load of grief.

NOW, to the rest, what good does it do you to give grief to people who for what ever reason didn't get as good a deal off their minerals as they might have gotten. I expect 75% of the big bonus people only got them because the info leaked out. Sure once the word was out, it was easy to start checking in to just how much you can get. Some people will just have to forever suck it up, their fault, sure but we would all be in the same boat except for the story breaking. Are they bitching, yeah some, but in their shoes I expect you would too. So, why do you need to rub their nose in it. If it offends you to such great extent that they would complain, then just skip their notes and go on to what ever info you are here for.
Jay, you've got mail.
Yeah I did.
Bigbelly, you may already be aware of this, but there was a story that ran on LPB in early October about a group of people, I think in the Keatchie-West Grand Cane area that felt they had been misinformed and deceived in a lease deal. They have a neighborhood organization formed and are pursuing legal action using an attorney from Shreveport. You can view a replay of the 7 minute article at www.lpb.org/programs/swi/streaming.cfm; it is on page 2 under LSWI 3204 Haynesville Shale part 2, Oct. 3. 2008.
I think this group has grown since that report and since they were willing to be interviewed on TV I feel sure they would appreciate discussing things with you.

Something else to consider about that story is that they were represented by an attorney who claims to them that he can get the bad lease deals overturned, for a portion of the difference. From most discussions I have read on this site by informed O&G people, what he is offering is almost impossible in LA and would require a moderate miracle. If he can back his claim, then great for him and the landowners, but if not, perhaps he is just another in line to try to grab some of these folks money by claiming to be able to do something he should know he most likely can't accomplish. I'm jus' sayin'
There are several Gentlemen in South Webster that were some of, if not the first to seek retribution via the courts. It isnt my info to give but it shouldnt be very hard to figure out who these people are with a little checking.
Has there been a resolution to their lawsuit? Either by settlement or judgement?
I havent any idea as to any action other than the initial action. I am not privey to any info whatsoever personally. Sorry
Over two years ago I leased a 40 acre tract in Bienville parish to Chesapeake for about $6000 over a two year period. It turned out to be where Chesapeake drilled one of their first wells (Hays 10.1) and we have been receiving very good royalties at 20% interest since January 2008. We also happend to have the LA Intrastate Pipeline across this same acreage. We have more unleased acreage so the next time I will ask for more lease money and 25% mineral interest.

I might add, we live in Colorado and were not as well informed at the time although we leased on the recommendations of a LA landsman.
Hey Mr. Humke,
2 years ago there wasnt a such thing as being informed on this play. Congrates on the good royalty checks. You sit in a very envious position for most folks. You have already started getting paid yet you are fortunate enough to still have viable acreage in the play. You have the best of both worlds and a wish you luck in your future dealings. Have a good one.
