Hey Keith,
I couldn't load the home page until recently, just been a problem the past couple of hours.
Parker and Bird Dawg,

You guys are a couple of the real active guys on here. I’m stunned that your vast knowledge does not extend to Firefox! It seems so simple to me, and the O&G stuff is so very complex that I might never understand more than a 5th grader about it :)

I’ve learned lots here, so if anyone needs help trying out another browser feel free to email. I will be glad to walk you through it. I am sure there are other shalers here who would be glad to work with you on it.

Here is the link to download Firefox. Just read this homepage for Firefox and then if you want, download it at the link.

The set up is pretty automatic - but it will want to import your bookmarks and settings and become your default browser. Nothing to fear – IE will still have all your stuff too.

PS: I’ve tried Opera – I think mostly the techs and geeks use it. It’s not as consumer oriented as either IE or Firefox. IMHO.

If you don't like it you can do a system restore or a simple removal of the program which should restore all your IE stuff. You can still use IE - but one will want to be your default browser.

PS: I used Firefox for years when I ran Windows XP. Now that I have Vista I am trying to stick with Microsoft products. Yeah, it really is like being in the belly of the beast, and perhaps truer Americans prefer the rebellious Firefox. Mozilla puts features in that take Microsoft years to catch up to.

and, yes the homepage does feel jerky and slow tonight.

and, I don't know that there is much difference these days between Firefox 3 and IE 7 or 8. Sure, a tech person can tell a lot of difference, but we regular users ....
I was last night, but it seems fine now.
Yes, it has been slower to load for a few weeks, have Windows Vista. Seems it has more to do with how many people are signed in to site. As you know I am long time shaler & at least as old as dirt.
KB,

Seems like I had a similar problem with the flash plug-in once, and the fix was to uninstall and reinstall the latest version. Check the support page at mozilla.com, there's lots of issues surrounding flash, you ought to be able to find the fix.

Kudos to you for using Safari. It lacks some features that I like in Firefox, but it's fast and more stable than Firefox in lots of ways.
KB,

It's probably what tech's call "Gremlins". It's sort of a joke when nothing else seems to make sense. These web browsers compete with each other and elbow each other out. They put all sorts of files on your computer.

M.MCwilliams is right - go to the Firefox/Mozilla home page and look at the issues with the flash plug in. That's the easiest fix. If that fails then uninstall and reinstall the browsers (except IE, Windows does not like you to uninstall IE)

You could try removing both Safari and Firefox and then reinstalling the one you really wanted. For example, if both Safari and Firefox and IE each downloaded the shockwave plug in, which all browsers use, then the Shockwave program can misfunction.

I've had the same exact problem you describe. Some tech folks reformat their hard drives every six months to a year. I'm one of these guys who will download and try almost anything to check it out. Sometimes junk gets left behind and prevents other programs from properly working. That's why uninstalling and then reinstalling the browsers may work.

OPPS - ALMOST FORGOT .... if you downloaded a beta version of anything (like IE) problems can happen. Beta software is by it's nature unstable and not finalized. The developers put all sorts of stuff in them and the dreaded "gremlins" can run wild on your computer.

The site was slow late last night when few people were on. Who knows? Maybe Twin Cities was harvesting all of our data so they could send their landmen to our houses :) That's just a joke, folks!

Sorry I could not be of more help.
I tossed both Microsoft and IE!
Haven't had any spyware junk issues with Ubuntu and Firefox.
Got tired of making Microsoft rich!
Yes, last night. Would not load the home page. seems to be working fine now. thanks, jhh
