How often is a "Bore hole lost"?

I just wanted to let any mineral owners of the Wertz-Collie (AW) 1H gas well in Upshur County, TX, know that per RRC completion records the bore hole was lost. Per the completion record, the borehole was so "corkscrewed" that completion equipment could not be placed in the hole. It looks like the company is seeking a permit to move over a couple of hundred feet and redrill the well. This was a 10000+ foot-long lateral. I can't imagine how costly this was to the company or how disappointing to the mineral owners. I'm wondering how often this sort of thing happens?

This was a common occurrence in the early days of horizontal drilling but is very rare today. Several should have gotten fired over this one - no reason for this to happen.

Operator definitely out a ton of $$$, but if they can get a new lateral drilled on same unit, the mineral owners will do OK (just a delay in getting royalty cash flow)
