THE GHS HAYNESVILLE SHALE RIG TRACKER.  2023

I'll update each week so we can follow the rig count.  I am only counting rigs drilling the Haynesville and Bossier formations.  Many industry rig numbers are for the "Haynesville Area",  however they may defined that, and includes wells drilling other formations.

Aethon (11 rigs) not concerned about gas prices.

Plus they have at least one more rig in Robertson Co drilling deep Bossier / HV lateral

Skip - thanks for posting this info

You're welcome, Rock Man.  Aethon seems to always be running a high rig count but for me it begs the question, how many of those rigs are drilling Aethon leasehold?  The rigs in Bienville and Bossier are drilling Aethon leasehold but I suspect that Aethon is the contract operator for one or more JV partners that owns the leases in much of E TX.  I believe that Black Stone likely owns the bulk of those minerals in the southern half of the E TX fairway.

Contract operating is a good money making gig!

Yep, Trinity operates for USG Properties (Nextera Energy) and has zero leasehold as far as I can tell.  Aethon has been rumored to have entertained offers for it's LA HA leasehold back when the last round of M&A occurred and SWN, Paloma and Sliver Hill joined the party.  Since most, if not all, of that Aethon leasehold is not proven for Bossier Shale reserves, the longer development continues, the less reserves are available to a buyer.  This has led Aethon to drill some Bossier wells and to engage in a lot of refracks.

Down ten rigs in three weeks.  I expect HA focused operators will continue to shed rigs in the coming weeks.
