THE GHS HAYNESVILLE SHALE RIG TRACKER.  2022

I'll update each week so we can follow the rig count.  I am only counting rigs drilling the Haynesville and Bossier formations.  Many industry rig numbers are for the "Haynesville Area",  however they may defined that, and includes wells drilling other formations.

I don't know anything about Aethon, but they have 14 rigs running in the Haynesville?

Aethon is a private company so no corporate presentations and few press releases.  The rig count is not an accurate indicator of the company's Haynesville leasehold.  Aethon acts as the JV operator for Black Stone Minerals so I don't think there is any Aethon leasehold in Angelina and San Augustine counties.  That accounts for 8 rigs and possibly an additional one in Shelby County.  The rigs in Bienville, Bossier and DeSoto are drilling on Aethon leasehold acquired from Questar and J-W Operating.  Aethon has been rumored to be looking for a buyer but has not found one.  The company is now rumored to be looking at the possibility of an IPO and going public.

interesting.  thanks.

Aethon was on the market before the price of NG went thru the roof.  Their PE backer wants to monetize the investment but the bid/ask spread is crazy due to the run up.  An IPO in this anti industry environment would be a painful way to monetize but may be necessary.  Their size dictates that a sale or merger would probably come from a non Haynesville operator.  Or there is always the multinational---that is my guess.  Osaka Gas probably has billions laying around.  Time will tell.
