Haynesville Shale - Well Hall of Fame (7/15/10)

Now that the "Hall of Fame" has reached 100 wells I thought it may be a good time to update the list with the latest information. Fourteen different operators now have featured wells.

There are eight (8) parishes and counties with wells on the list with the top two being Red River (37) and DeSoto (31). Top operators are Petrohawk (28), EnCana (18), Questar (11), Exco (9), Chesapeake (8) and Comstock (7).

Texas now has three of the top four wells.

The list includes wells that had an initial rate above 20 MMcfd.

Les, I would think that Devon would be very interested in drilling an ofset to the Kardell # 1 in the very near future to see if they had learned from their mistakes.

SB, yes - I will be very interested to see if Devon drills an offset well. They have drilled later wells in SA County but I do not know their locations relative to the Kardell well and no test rates have been released.

SB--Iknow Devon has had problem with completions before.I understand this shale is very tricky and difficult and not the same every place. Late 2008 they had major problem with the McSwain #7H in the Stockman field SSW Shelby. It was a H well in the Shale multi segment fac and it fac not only the shale but also into the lime below was look to be a hugh well in the 30+mmcfd range.something happen and they completely lost casing and the hole. they then recompleted it in cotton valley at about 2mmcfd this info for one of the consultant on the well a personal friend.

Adubu, wouldn't it be possible that Devon's announcement and the cooresponding increase in Crimson's stock price was the trigger for a quick filing by Crimson for a new issue? Are you certain that Crimson had already filed the paperwork with the SEC BEFORE the Devon announcement? I don't know.......just asking. I personally think that Devon's announcement was for their own benefit , rather than Crimson's. Otherwise it is the tail wagging the dog.

SB--thanks for comment---I don't know for sure but it does have a little smell to it.I think it's normal wall street daily activity. I think last year or so lots of stock companies have drawn very hard on their wells for good production to calculate higher EUR and have hurt these wells and in long run deceased the EUR. HK recently talk about same to decrease their chokes. Some smaller oil & gas non stock operator are much more conservative on their chokes and flow well at slow easy rate and as result have better longer production with increase EUR. You and Les B are more knowledgeable about these things that I it's just my reading and observation of events

D. Gaar, what is a 25/26 choke??? is that what you meant or 25/64 on the Murray Gas Unit 1-H.

Pretty amazing to have this many at this level. I remember when we first heard of the HS and comparing it to the Barnette. Then 5 Mcfd was a good well. Thanks for compiling the information.

Les, a few days ago you reported on the Mondello well in RR parish with over 10k psi and flowing at 13+Mcfd on a restricted choke. Do you and Jay think this might be the best combination for success? I value you guys opinion and certainly appreciate the information.

Jeff, I definitely look at the combination of initial flow rate, flowing pressure & choke size in assessing the quality of a well. On that basis I believe the Mondello is a super well. Of course the recent EnCana well in Texas tested at 32 MMcfd with a 9500 psi flowing pressure.

I agree , the well is just across the Lake from me and it flow records are big,, I wonder if there is going to be any acitivity under the lake and south near Brookeland.
