House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources: Oversight Hearing on "Unconventional Fuels, Part I: Shale Gas Potential"

Just heard about this hearing tomorrow - so I think I'll head into DC to cover this. I think I'll probably twitter during the hearing - I may try to start a discussion too, but this platform is a bit tricky with the iPhone.

I'll be interested to see what is said regarding federal oversight of hydraulic fracturing.

Those are solid predictions...

It does seem a little odd for Congressmen to drag these guys all the way to DC to discuss an issue they are never going to understand. I predict I'll have to change the title of the hearing to "Shale's Taxable Income Potential"...Since congress is digging around for lose change

You're out, sesport. Just on probation. Ha! Keith, I will be curious to see if the members of the subcommittee believe the reserve estimates for the known shale plays. I think legislators would find shale gas of greater interest if they fully understood the magnitude of the long term supply.

The chair (and everyone else) appears to know. USGS guy stated 364 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable unconventionals.

Yes!
It's looking more and more like folks who think of "Green" as meaning "Clean" have not gotten the true message! To politicians, "Green" is more like the code word for the color of money!

Check out the groundwater protection council - Scott Kell heads. He is also a water regulator for the state of OH.

He stated that reports of groundwater well contamination, nearly 1000, are not accurate

Less - like most of the reports. Those that did occur were results of human error

Mike John, was asked about the biggest obstacle for continued shale development, his reply, "any negative regulation"...this was too broad for the Chair's taste.
