I have just become minor owner in a large gas field in Sabine and DeSoto counties. I want to get more info but have no idea where to start looking or who to contact. If there are active wells, contracts etc. Logan Tract to be specific.
Any suggestions ?

most of what you want is in the section, Well Information. The basic searches are for permits (Permitted Wells by Date/Parish). Wells by Section, Township, and Range (fill in the township and range but leave the section box blank to pull up all the sections and then scroll through them to see all the wells that could be relevant. Wells are organized by the surface location which is often not the section or sections being produced. Those section numbers appear in the well name.
This is the first public record that shows the intent to drill new wells. These agenda items require notice letters to land and mineral owners of record within the unit or units covered and to those immediately adjacent to a distance of 1000 feet.
Ask questions and spend some time looking through the search options. Only a handful are really useful for mineral owners. The rest are for industry and staff use mainly. Keep in mind, there are no dumb questions. The mineral space is complicated and arcane but with a little work mineral owners can access much of the information that is relevant for them. Good luck.
