relatively few new permits for Haynesville over in Texas during the last month.  interesting.

Not to thread-jack Skip too much here, but essentially, looks like the permitting count has moved down even further than the rig count.  I had hoped to see a stabilization around about the same number of permits as active rigs.  Not enough info to predict on, but if you follow trends, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cotton Valley rig count > than Haynesville.  Likely to see rig count half of what it has been.  of course, Texas drilling permit are good for 2 years vs six months in Louisiana.  

On a not directly related note, USGS has added a new assessment of unconventional plays.  I don't put much stock in the specific numbers, but its interesting.

LA drilling permits may be effective for six months or for twelve months.  The applicant chooses the term and pays the appropriate fee.  You must inspect the actual permit on SONRIS Classic to know which is applicable to a particular well. 

For an accurate and quick review of Haynesville permits over any period use the Permits By Date search option on SONRIS Lite and input the desired dates.  However this will pull up all permits for the state for that date.
