Can the mere signing of a lease interrupt presciption? What minimum action would be deemed sufficient to cause interruption?

Thanks to all.

No, the drilling of a well or working on an old well will interrupt.
So, permit application by the drilling company does not interrupt only actual turning of the bit? I guess I'm trying to find out at what point in the process does the state consider formal interruption? Is each case different or is there some magic moment? Could be some potential litigation if everyone has a different idea of what qualifies as interruption. If the drilling company builds a pad but doesn't begin operations for 18 months I believe each side of the equation would have differing views.

Thanks
Drilling operations will interrupt. That is a broad definition that can include active and ongoing preperation for drilling which does not necessarily mean turning to the right. Certainly if they have a rig on location and are rigging up that would be considered drilling operations. I would not be comfortable hoping that a location built 18 months ago would hold my lease. That would be problematic for me, I would seek an extension of the lease. I'm a landman, not a lawyer, you really ought to get a good O&G attorney to answer that one given the specifics of your situation and taking into consideration all applicable case law.
Jay, is he talking about holding a lease or the prescription of minerals. By the way some friends of Bill W. are having lunch this coming Thurs. @ Country Tavern. Celebrating B-days. Please come if you'd like.
I know about that. Haven't been in awhile, not since CD died I think. I'll try to make it this Thursday. Thanks.

And you're right...I was thinking maintaining a lease. My bad
.
KB,

My question was not regarding a lease. You answered my question in your previous post. I can assume from the code that simply building a road for a future drilling pad does not constitute interruption. Thanks for your time and efforts. I appreciate it.
