Anyone having problems with loading problems on GHS? I am running a hot rod rig, 6 core with all the goodies. GHS is lagging. The little circle swirles for a while and I don't have time to wait for 2 minutes for it to pop up?

i'm wondering if it has anything to do with each individuals personal internet speed. high speed, broad band, 2G,4G, ect...

the Linux browsers were just bombarded with ad junk and I never bothered to figure out how to filter it

You been away from linux too long..

I use Ubuntu which is packaged with firefox.. I never get any of that junk that I got with Windows and IE..

I think if I were going to give my mother a computer who knew little about using one, I'd install Ubuntu on it to keep her out of trouble with all that junk one picks up online these days so I wouldn't having to be spending so much time cleaning it for her.

Linux has come a long ways..

They send you patches and updates like Microsoft

The best part though is it's free!

Official GHS Tech Engineer - you're hired! It's hosted by a 3rd party and they do perform quite a bit of updates. That has been the root of some of these issues. I may need to prioritize on the tools that are especially useful on the site and remove other to speed it up.
Additional point, Keith.  I just checked the "who's online" bar impact, and using IE, every time the sucker rotates to a new user, my cpu use spikes to 60% - so running this thing eats up 2/3 of my cpu (3GHz, but older, so smaller cache) half the time if I have the "who's online" display up.  If I hit the stop button on it, I am okay, aside from inefficient ad content (I understand you need the ads, no idea if they can be made more efficient).  If "who's online" defaulted to stopped, it would have less impact, but I know different users might feel different about this (or maybe there is a config control I just have not looked into in my account).  If I turn it off, drill down for content, and pop back out, it is turned back on, so this "feature" makes it hard for me to leave it turned off.

click the red x top right hand side of the whos online bar and it goes away.

Thanks, should have been obvious; not only does it go away, but it stays away.  Just did not look up that way; it is "standard interface", so my problem.

I don't even have a who's online bar or am not seeing one... Maybe firefox doesn't recognize it..

There is a block that says "Shalers" but it's not moving..

Upper right under Main Page header.  The box has, from top to bottom; Sign Out, Inbox, Alerts, Friends, Settings, and then a magnifying glass with "Who's Online".
Okay, I found it. I turned it back off though. Didn't act like it was going to load anything..
I can turn that function off. I have done so in the past and people have requested it be returned, but if its slowing things down it may need to be turned off. I hit the x and it doesn't pop up again for me. Let me do some thinking. Thanks.

Hi Keith,

Yes, it indeed helps me to simply "hit the x" on the "who's online display".  Probably a good thing to at least make people aware that if they are having performance issues, they may want to do this.  By doing this, I would say the GHS's performance is more inline with other highly active sites like CNN, at least for me.  I am sure my machine is right on the edge, so in a sense is a good test.  I am running in memory (not page faulting to disk), but just barely.  I would also consider slowing down the photos display in the sidebar, or if possible, making it user-settable.  All this stuff is nice to have, unless you happen to be on the edge :-)
