the Linux browsers were just bombarded with ad junk and I never bothered to figure out how to filter it
You been away from linux too long..
I use Ubuntu which is packaged with firefox.. I never get any of that junk that I got with Windows and IE..
I think if I were going to give my mother a computer who knew little about using one, I'd install Ubuntu on it to keep her out of trouble with all that junk one picks up online these days so I wouldn't having to be spending so much time cleaning it for her.
Linux has come a long ways..
They send you patches and updates like Microsoft
The best part though is it's free!
click the red x top right hand side of the whos online bar and it goes away.

I don't even have a who's online bar or am not seeing one... Maybe firefox doesn't recognize it..
There is a block that says "Shalers" but it's not moving..
Hi Keith,
Yes, it indeed helps me to simply "hit the x" on the "who's online display". Probably a good thing to at least make people aware that if they are having performance issues, they may want to do this. By doing this, I would say the GHS's performance is more inline with other highly active sites like CNN, at least for me. I am sure my machine is right on the edge, so in a sense is a good test. I am running in memory (not page faulting to disk), but just barely. I would also consider slowing down the photos display in the sidebar, or if possible, making it user-settable. All this stuff is nice to have, unless you happen to be on the edge :-)
