I am constantly amazed at the number of people, who do not produce/are not productive, but are "experts" on what drives a sane, thriving economy. Generally identified as "ineptocrats",and exhibiting low brain activity. Eminent domain is also used to clear up titles to land, where the unknown claimants cannot be found. This probably accounts for 90% of the cases. Sorry if I popped the Big Bad Pipeline bubble!

Sesport, as long as you don't tell anyone here, truth is, I also read the Huffington Post.  I want to get a different "slant" on the news.  Why get your news from only one source? They ALL lie or make mistakes or have biases.

But, pleezze ... don't tell anyone here I read Huffington Post!  (not everyday, mostly just on the weekends)

To be honest, I have not kept up on this pipeline deal.  It's very complex.  However, to me the deciding factor would be to lessen our dependence on mid east oil.  I care a lot about the environment, but i think most of those issues can be worked out.

However, I was struck by what articles were most popular on the same UPI (United Press International) website. I got sidetracked and read a couple of them!  The "bondage" story happened right up the road from me. lol!

Agree with HANG about dependence of mid-east, or Venezuela.

 

 

 

Agree with HANG . We buy oil from those who dislike/hate us, and refuse to buy from our Canadian cousins! Such logic comes from sawdust-----not brains!

Absolutely Right!!!!! 

And since when did the TEXANS get on a high horse about Oil and Gas Projects???  If it weren't for OIL and GAS...Where Would TEXANS be today?

Almost every Ranch, Farm I've ever been on, East TX, West TX, South TX...There are wells everywhere.  Pipelines everywhere.  And, I bet the 600 acre TX "Farm" referenced here, probably has a few too.  Ergo, Farm would have a few "pipelines" on it also.

I wonder if the current Farm owners own the under-surface rights??? In TX they can be severed from surface forever, and usually are. 

I agree with desenters, eminent domain should be last recourse remedy, and the surface/mineral owners should hold the upper hand in these negotiations, even in the courts.  IMO  Fairly compensated and treated with respect per usage of landowner's property.

I also don't see TEXANS getting all bent out of shape over the "artifacts" being disturbed or the "environmental" posturing.   Between cows and fertilizers and the 100+ years of O&G business that BUILT Texas... IMO Texans decided a long time ago where their loyalties lie, and it wasn't with "artifacts," and "ground water" or "green" technology.  TransCanada's Pipeline isn't going to change anything any more than the past 100+ years.

I wonder if this "Farmer" uses Nat Gas, or Butane, or Propane, or Gasoline...for say... Hot water to run a bath?  Heat for the home?  Use of a Gas Range/Oven to cook Family dinners?  Or has cattle that they use feed for?  Maybe their cattle are "free range" raised...  Or, have a vehicle to drive?  Maybe they drive electric Trucks.  LOL

If TransCanada's statement is correct...They already have 99% of easements with landowners, in place.  Then this one dissenter won't hold up this process.  Just look at the HS UMOs!  LOL

Story sounds allllll tooooo political again.... Who will get the $$$$$$ First, Second and Last!  It isn't to hard to smell the TX politicians...  Just like Nebraska.

And I like Canadians doing business in the U.S.  I trust them a helluva lot more than OPEC!

Be careful you may get what you wish for....Why do they want a pipeline from Sask. to Houston - $$$ If they can deliver API24 at a discount in Houston ...they must believe they can compete with local supplies from TX and LA...so I hope the local producers have some long-term contracts for TCA crude...

 

Remember what with gas...the other way around...with gas at $6-7 we encouraged/drove drillers in PA/NY to find the techniques and plays to supply gas to the power plants in NY/PA/NE-US and now the prices are below $3...We in Calif are looking around for enough associated to eliminate need for the southern-ElPaso lines we have depended on for 50+yrs...what happens to TX gas$$VVVVV....

It really only deals with what the price of crude at the border is  plus transport to Houston compared to Aleyaska delivered by tanker to LA and piped to Midland Odessa compared to that shipped from everywhere south and east to Houston/Beaumont terminals...

And don't forget that various "experts" and high ranked officials are now calling for congress to disallow any export of natural gas - LNG from the US - What is the price now $2.25-2.70?? Hang on

There are alternative pipeline routes which would avoid damaging reserved areas as required for most states oil and gas commission - but the pipeline is commercial and current routes are the MOST profitable

OBTW many states have local control ordiances which allow city, county, township and other authorities to control/manage develop of natural resources - ain't that something like states rights??  Several in NY and PA and three here in California have restrictions on O&G/E&P operations through various state laws and have not been opposed by the E&P regulators.
