Texas Smackover Lithium Play
As the Smackover (SMK) Lithium (Li) play picks up steam we need to acknowledge that from regulatory and legal standpoints, there will be significant differences between the play in South Arkansas and in East Texas. Very soon we expect to know more about royalty provisions and regulatory guidelines. From past experience with dissimilarities between Texas and Louisiana mineral laws and regulatory statutes governing the Haynesville Shale, we hope to limit confusion and make it easier to access the information that will be pertinent to land and mineral owners.
In order to help members and quests to the website and to avoid confusion, we will start two new discussions, one for Texas and one for Arkansas. There is an abundance of information in the original SMK Lithium discussion threads and members may want to click on them and then save them to their computer bookmarks/favorites to be able to access them in the future as they will eventually rotate off the main page. After 24 hours, comments in those discussions will be closed but the replies will remain available in the website archive. Archived discussions are available by using the search box in the upper right corner of all website pages.
GoHaynesvilleShale.com was one of the first resources for mineral owners to learn basics, share information and generally provide a place where mineral owners could become more informed managers of their mineral assets in the age of the Internet. Skip It is my understanding that Solar and Wind leases are also now being pursued in this same area. Have you or others have any information on this and terms offered?

There a number of solar projects in various stages of approval and engineering here in NW LA but I have not heard of any in near E TX. I've never heard of wind projects in E TX. I wouldn't think it had the sustained and strong winds like in W TX to make it economic. If there are any E TX wind projects in the works, I haven't heard of them. If you have any idea of the counties, I suggest a public records search for wind leases.

Agree with you as to the feasibility of wind projects in E Tx - the topography plus wind "trends" don't support that concept based on my understanding of what is needed.
Solar is another story.

I agree with you both Skip and Rock Man but that is why I am interested. But I have heard from landmen that there is leasing in the Titus, Franklin, Hopkins counties area for Solar and Wind. What company is leasing in Louisiana and I can check them for leases. If this is true Someone must be envisioning a project that will require a lot of local energy sources for some reason. Maybe we will hear from some land owners.

I would discount the rumors for wind. I would think that E TX is as good a prospect for solar as NW LA. I would care to review one of the leases for solar and wind if you can provide one. My suspicion is that the language may be a "catch all" for investors to expand their potential profits for whatever becomes a future opportunity to make money. Similar to the lease terms we have seen that combine O&G rights with brine/lithium rights. I think landowners should do two things. Seek out professional legal counsel on any lease offer they receive and to not lump together the rights to too many potentially valuable rights under one lease.

Skip and Rockman
Thoroughbred Wind, LLC has recorded memos of Wind leases in Hopkins County, most recent filed 10/28/24. Leases dated from May through August 2024. Also, Pine Forest Solar has numerous solar leases filed of record in Hopkins County. It is my understanding that the wind and solar people are paying more than the lithium people.
