I think you hit some of the things on the head.  Another other issue (IMHO) is fragmentation of the site traffic to Go EagleFord, Go Marcellus, etc.  

Another issue is the limited cover due to reduced overall volume - some of the ability to remain anonymous is gone when there are far fewer wells being drilled, and therefore far fewer comments being made in gas stations, stores, etc.

I would disagree with that based on what I see. 

Quite early, it became clear that for a variety of reasons Eagle Ford discussions would not thrive on GHS. As you may remember, this site had several Eagle Ford groups and they simply started to die off, which led to EagleFordForum.com. Since that site's launch, things have picked up quite a bit.

Additionally, membership duplicates are a very small fraction of membership.

Jay, you're right.  Not many new wells being drilled.  Or permitted.  Or unit applications.  At least in north LA.  South LA. seems to have picked up where it left off prior to the Haynesville Shale.   I do think that NW LA/Ark-La-Tex development will pick up before year's end.  My work tables are covered with O&G conveyance indices and copies of leases and memos.  I copied about 150 today alone. There is a significant amount of leasing activity that appears to signal new development targeting liquids in E TX and NW LA.  In fact there is so much activity that I'm challenged to follow it in real time much less  accurately attribute it to a particular operator by defined area.

Well, y'know, seems like there was a "meaningful" discussion about Anadarko and North Caddo, but someone decided to close down that thread.

Bobi, you may be referring to several of my discussions which were posted to both the Main Page and the North Caddo Group.  I closed the Main Page discussions as soon as I posted them and directed replies to the North Caddo discussion so that we wouldn't have two identical threads running at the same time.  IMO location specific discussions belong in the proper group.

I wasn't following it, but recall the numerous accusations in the past about who closed a discussion and all of the ensuing bad feelings that went along with the disputes.

Bobi, as far as I know only Keith and the originator of a discussion thread are able to close it.

Hi Bobi, there can only be 2 people to close a discussion. Me or the original poster. Unless it delves into a pointless argument or is a duplicate. I do not delete any post.

where is the two dollar gas prices? chk does not pay two dollars. the employee on here comes up with a $2.71 price comming soon, but it never gets here.

  Warning for any new leases, do not lease with chk. and be very careful what broker you use.

It might be because when some folks try to spur discussion they are met in the forum with condescending remarks and the like. Participation will wane if people don't feel that others are open to civil discussion.

Based on everything I see internally, externally, and feedback from members. This a market driven issue as Jay points to in his post. The groups that are currently seeing action (Brown Dense/Tuscaloosa) have kept this site moving forward. This site was built on local activity and a niche subject matter. We reaped the positives, of that targeting for quite some, and as many of our royalty checks reflect, we are now seeing the negatives from that targeting. At some point we have to "graduate" into a semi-new direction, because let's face it, unless this nation starts fully utilizing and exploiting the resources from our play (and others) we will continue to see anemic activity throughout the unconventional gas industry and in 20 years we will still be twiddeling our thumbs wondering what, "could have been." What's that new direction? I have thoughts on that (as I'm sure you do) but not concrete answers.
