Industry touts major Mancos Shale play Estimates point to 6B barrels of recoverable oil

FARMINGTON – The San Juan Basin could be headed toward a renaissance in natural-gas and oil drilling if rosy expectations touted by industry officials at Monday’s San Juan Basin Energy Conference hold true.

“In the southern part of the basin, the Mancos play has the potential to revitalize declining San Juan Basin oil production and also has a tremendous amount of future gas production in the…

60 Minutes & Shale Gas Misinformation - Why it matters...

Minute 6:06 is where it all went south. Minute 10:45 is where I laughed out loud. Like an aged rollercoaster that you were foolish enough to hop on. I, however, continued to watch, hoping that it would right itself. But it wasn’t to be. Ms. Stahl, what did we do to you to deserve such “royal treatment?”

You can watch the segment here.

My Interview with Congressman Fleming

I arrived at Congressman John Fleming’s office, which is located in the Longworth Building, around 3:30 and took a seat. Soon thereafter, Fleming came out of a meeting. Of course, as the way things go at Congressional offices, Fleming had to run down to the floor to cast a vote. So after a brief intro and a handshake, he was gone as… Continue

Black history month, “what’s that have to do with me?”

I never paid a lot of attention to black history month and have even fallen pray to the “why isn’t there a white history month” mentality.

I have to admit that even though I felt sympathy at the types of things that I read about, I didn’t really “feel the pain” in a gut wrenching manner. It was something that I understood was horrendous but it was mostly all before my time. It was inexcusable but it didn’t… Continue

Mansfield wants to get in on mineral rights leasing

By Vickie Welborn

vwelborn@gannett.com

MANSFIELD — With 113 acres here, five acres there, one or two acres over yonder, the city of Mansfield could stand to gain some unexpected revenue if oil and gas companies zero in on the city for potential natural gas exploration and drilling.

That's why Mayor Curtis McCoy asked Marjorie McKeithen, the state's… Continue
