I'm sure this question has been asked before but I couldn't find anything on it - we own a camp on the water and have heard that if gas is found the owners of lake front will get some type of compensation.  We don't own the mineral rights.  Any truth to the rumors?  Sorry if this is a repeat question.  Thanks for any info.

The only land owners who are not mineral owners who will receive any form of compensation are those who enter into right-of-way, well bore easement or surface site location agreements.

I wouldn't say that SJ. If there is development in your vicinity you will see plenty of heavy vehicle traffic and damaged roads. Of course that same development will be a shot in the arm for local businesses. Balancing the damage and annoyance with the benefits isn't easy but will be up to your local elected representatives. The parishes with the most development have passed or are formulating ordinances to manage the traffic, road damage and noise.
Your so right, we were there this weekend - trucks flying down a narrow dirt road and a noisey little boat in the water putting down poles.
