Greetings.
I have some property on the south side of the Lakeshore Extension (Lakeshore, west of Curtis Lane) in Caddo Parish that was leased to Chesapeake Energy two and a half years ago, which is due to expire this coming August. Does anyone have any idea what the projected outlook is for drilling in that area? I am a self-confessed idiot when it comes to all this and all the different information out there does little to clear up the current state of confusion I am in. Any help would greatly be appreciated, including, and especially if there is somewhere an idiot 'newbie' like myself can get somewhat self-educated. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Robby, I assume you are located in Sec 8-T17N-R14W. There have been no permitted Haynesville Shale wells in T17N-R14W but the closest activity is ~ 3 miles west and southwest of you in T17N-R15W. Chesapeake has permitted a well in Section 11 and drilled wells in Sections 14 & 23 of T17N-R15W. See following details and attached map.

Robby...you are in for a deep learning curve. First thing to do is find a good Oil and gas lawyer, take him your documents (copy of deed, any existing mineral leases. And second, don't commit to anything to any landman. Refer him to your attorney. You will be glad you did. Keep in mind: the land man is not an employee of the drilling company usually. He could easily stand between you and a fair agreement. There are some reputable Landmen out there but how do you know the one you talking to is one of those? I called the company and verified the one that talked to me was one of theirs. If you have the land as well as mineral rights one main thing I learned: Easements give the lessee rights to the land forever. Right of way lets the land revert back to your control after all production ceases. The difference can be important down the road.
But do not sign or even agree verbally to anything without seeing the attorney. Been there done that.
You might like to pull up the Property owners Rights...I did and it doesn't appear that there are really many of those..the mineral rights trump those in every way. So you need to protect your property and your future use of same in every way you can.
I can assure you if the oil and gas company wants to drill they will talk to your attorney. Don't get caught up with a landman or bundler who will get you on dotted line and then "shop" your lease. Could mean you never get a well or a producing lease.
