What is the Shale that has been found under the Haynesville?

Heard a rumor that a big new shale has been found at 20,000 feet.  It is below the Haynesville.  Does anybody know anything about it?  Does it have a name?  Will gas companies need to sign new leases to get to it?  Most leases limit the depth to 150 feet below the Haynesville and this is much deeper.

I have answered the question accurately.  15,000+ TVD for GDP, Nelson 1-H.  20,000+ proposed

TD.  Well is still drilling.

SB, the following Haynesville Shale well in Louisiana extends below 15,000 ft TVD (15,226 ft).

Les, with a MD of 17,173', a TVD of 15,226' would sure indicate an very short lateral.  There is something that just doesn't look right about the TVD # in this well, IMHO.  What am I missing?

SB, the missing piece is the TVD of 15,226' is at the end of the lateral whereas the TVD at the start of the perfs was ~ 14,656'.  The total MD of the drilled well was actually 17,743' but this was a "shortish" lateral of only ~ 2,517' length.  This is the reason you cannot just take the difference between MD and TVD for the lateral length.

BR, there are existing Haynesville Shale wells in Louisiana with TVD's below 14,000 ft.

Regarding the Haynesville Shale depth in Louisiana, I have identified three wells (Ser #'s 241032, 241095 & 241404) that are deeper than 14,000 ft.  The last one listed extends to a TVD depth of 15,226 ft.  I am sure there are others that could be identified in Louisiana once information is available on Sonris.

Les, look at the wells in 9N, 11W. 240,702 (13,237'); 240,815 (13,805); 240,845 ( 13,268'); 241,021 (13,234'). Then look at 242,572 (15,000'). Looks like 242,572 could be testing the SMK?

WR, I think we have to wait until the well is actually drilled to evaluate.  I have seen other wells that had permitted TVD's deeper than the depth that was actually drilled.

You are correct.

Sort of funny though. ECA normally permits all wells at 12,000' TVD and 17,000' MD and then drills them the way it wants. Unusual that ECA would suddenly go to 15,000' TVD.

 

Just like the Lower, Middle and Upper SMK ECA permitted in 35/15/14 with pad in 26. Now word on the ground is that the permit application was a "mistake." Sort of strange that some employee who has been doing nothing but permitting HA. Shale and a few Mid-Bossier would all of a sudden permit three SMKs.

Any E&P with a vertical Pugh doesn't  want a land rush on SMK!

Look at  serial # 238820. Went below 13000 and then did a plugback. Encana looked at Smackover on this one--that I know from reliable source

i've just heard about this shale and the man that told me could'nt  remember the name,  a lot of olderleases did not place a limit on depth,  some of my property leases date to the early '50s and before.  i'll be more cafeful in the future.   skipper d
