It will be a shame if the members of this group do not use the information available as public record through the state mineral auction.  Example:  In today's auction Anadarko bid successfully on 12 tracts totaling over 2300 acres in Avoyelles, Rapides, Point Coupee, Evangeline and Saint Landry parishes.  The bonus offers ranged from $153.17 to $175.17 per acre and the royalty on all the bids was 22.5%.  The significant total acres of public lands likely indicates a quite large leasing program for privately owned minerals in the same and proximal section-township-ranges.  The Play is picking up momentum.

Looks good, Joe.  I'd like to add a few comments for those new to the site who may be viewing the bids for the first time.  The five digit number at the first of a bid listing is the Tract Number.  It is possible to look up a nominated tract prior to the auction to view the property description, the property plats and who nominated the tract.  For most, the bid results are what is important.  After the parishes where the tract is located comes the sections and then the townships.  It can be confusing the way it is listed but using 42039 above for an example; Sections 1-33 are in T3S - R7E and Sections 4-9 are in T4S - R7E.  After the s-t-r comes the tract size in acres.  In this case 716.0 acres.  Using 42038 as the example; Anadarko bid a bonus of $153.17 per acre for the 805 acre tract for a total bonus payment of $123,301.85 and a royalty of 22.5%.  This is for a one year lease term.  If Anadarko does not drill the tract in that time and wishes to extend the lease for an additional year they would be required to pay one half the original bonus or $61,654.95  State bids are the only public record where mineral owners can find bonus amounts.  For all intents and purposes the bidder is setting a benchmark value for an area based on their bid.  Good information to know when negotiating a lease.

thx skip....i understand price per acre lease,,  but what is Rental?????

In the past the companies would pay a lease bonus then pay a rental of 1/2 the bonus amount to continue the lease the second year, etc. All of that changed when they moved in and started taking leases from people that had no experence in oil and gas leases.

The State still requires that for the company to continue the lease the second year through the term that they pay a rental for each year they hold the lease. That is generally 1/2 of the bonus.
