The Senate just voted on the NAT GAS Act offered as an amendment (#1782) of the
Transportation Bill #1813.
The amendment failed by 9 votes. Senator Vitter was one of the nay votes. He voted against the best interest of the people of Louisiana. Be sure to remember this.

Vitter!! That's not good when a Louisiana senator votes against legislation clearly in Louisiana's (and the nation's) best long term interest. Transportation is the main use that could raise natgas prices (and reducing pollution and haul freight cheaper)

But what I really don't understand is the Conservative's argument against the subsidy and taxes. What am I missing? It seems perfectly appropriate for those who benefit from a subsidy in 2012 should pay a bit more in natural gas fuel taxes next year. It looks like a win-win situation to me. What am I missing? Here is the Conservative's argument against the amendment - and the vote was fairly close down party lines with the Democrats supporting the natgas amendment!
.
"The bill dramatically expands the subsidy for natural gas vehicle purchases up to $64,000. At the same time, the bill calls for a tax increase on natural gas fuel. Yes, the very same people who are subsidized on the one hand would then pay an extra tax on the other. Of course, they would only learn of this “pay-for” in the years to come."

I was not for the bill, as a true conservative we do not need to be subsidized by the government and if you think that tax will go away and not increase I have some land I would like to sell.
Your right we don't need more government involvment in the free market.
as a true libertarian i believe we no longer have these "free market" thingies of which you speak.
i basically agree with terry, pull all of the subsidies. all of them.
I remember when sales tax was a "mere" 2%...and here's the rest of the story...
I remember when washington said "Oh we just want gas tax to pay for roads" and then aI saw them steal the highway funds made from those taxes.
I remember when Texans voted for the lottery misunderstanding that the money would go toward education. Opps, again.
I remember when they assured voters that social security numbers would NEVER be used for identification. Well, at least they aren't tattooed on our wrists. Opps, again.
I want to share a positive comment about one Senator, namely Robert Menendez. When in a former life I spent a great deal of time in Washington as a result of Katrina, his door was always open to me. I found in him a quick mind and a good heart. He at least tried to do all that he said he would and was a great support in a difficult time. If he says he will try again on this matter, I think you can take that to the bank. He will try. After our working together for a good while, he described himself as "the third Senator from Louisiana."
Would be nice to move him from third place to first. Then Louisiana would have an advocate.
The American people need to wake up! Stop voting for the same people over and over to run our country. Do you really think anybody in Washington cares about this country anymore?
Washington is smothering us with their "cares". Caring gets us more intrusive government, Obamacare only one of many examples. Subsidies and corporate welfare needs to end and just because one subsidy helps my cause doesn't make it right.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
