3.7 Earthquake Northern Nacogdoches County

Speculation to follow.

 

Officials warn that Nacogdoches and Shelby counties could experience aftershocks following Thursday morning’s earthquake that registered a 3.7 magnitude by the United States Geological Survey.

“These aftershocks are usually less violent than the main earthquake, but can be strong enough to do damage,” said a press release from the Nacogdoches Unified Emergency Operations Center. “Aftershocks can occur hours, days, weeks, or even months (later).”

Just wondering.....

 

While we keep talking about artificial manipulations of ground water/liquids...what about good ol' Mother Nature?  We were in a tremendous drought and now this spring we are having wonderful rain......If ground water tables are replinishing would that not cause a shifting of the earth above?

There's been 11 quakes in ET recorded since 1850. The last two just occurred seven days apart. The drought theory is interesting, but I know of no link.

Sesport, I think Dr. Sharma is wrong.  We all know that there is a big turtle deep under the ground and all this fracing is making him hiccup.  If we don't stop messing with the turtle, he's going to let a big one go and swallow us up.....

Nice snark from Dr Sharma. We're concerned for the roads too. Drawing a taxpayer check while taking potshots, if indeed this tone is throughout the linked article, makes the professor look small and self serving.

He and the industry needs to stepout from behind the podium/desk/screen and away from an easy audience and explain this so the unformed can join in on the joke. If this is being done, it's ineffective.

Times a wastin' and you are loosing the perception battle. Sarcasm really hurts the cause.

Personally, I failed in elevating the mood a page back and contributed to the silliness that has turned to derision. I apologize, it won't happen again.

Okay, I read it.

Sharma does connects fracking to industry activity. I hope he will become part of the solution, as a 4.2 quake is impressive. What do California quakes have to do with ET quakes?

East Texas earthquakes do more than tickle a funny bone, seaport, we are not amused.
