I read that they took over eight wells in the Elm Grove field of Bossier Parish from J-W Operating. Does anyone have any insight into why Anadarko would take these over? Anadarko expressed an interest in leasing our property before we leased with Encana.

It looks like they get better results than JW.
There is liquid production in the CV in the Elm Grove field. As I recall, Anadarko has a little pocket of liquids in their Texas Haynesville wells.
At least their results on future wells should be better than 'ole JW.
Parker:
They were JV partners with J-W in (at least portions of) Elm Grove. I think 60/40 (J-W), from what I remember. APC acquired Kerr-McGee's interest by merger. As a JV partner, they would generally have rights to take over wells that J-W would consider abandoning as well as the ability to cross-assign interests within the area.
About 12 or 13 years ago I worked a DD project where BELCO bought a 40 or 50 million interest from JW in Elm Grove. If I remember correctly this may have went to Kerr-McGee?
So, do you think Anadarko purchased it from BELCO?
I think BELCO merged into Kerr-McGee.
Parker:
Yes, Anadarko/Kerr-McGee did take over a number of super shale wells from J-W in several sections in the EGF in Bossier P. And from what I know about the transfer, J-W kept the rights to the old shallower verts (which they have many of) in those sections (and so J-W is still producing, paying the royalties on those) . . . whereas the guys from the Woodlands took over the deep rights and are paying the royalties on the HA shale wells. In other words, J-W held on to the shallow rights, and the big guys bought the deep rights. That was my take on it (but I could be I'm wrong, i.e., maybe it was a JV).
Also, don't know for sure, but I suspect J-W needed the cash from the sale (back when NG was hitting those deep pricing lows). At least, that's what it appeared to me at the time.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
