And the President of the United States went on Truth Social last night to call surging oil prices “a very small price to pay.”
He is, at this point, the only person in the world who thinks that.
So here’s where we are…

Thanks, Joe. If the war goes on long enough many parts of the world will feel the affects. I'm disappointed that gasoline prices have gone up so quickly as the war really doesn't impact domestic oil production. It does allow oil companies and refiners to raise their prices even though there is no US disruptions and may not be for some time. US refiners do not need heavy crude from Saudi Arabia now that they can get in from Venezuela, and Canada. The same with LNG even though most of US capacity serves Europe, LNG exporters will raise the price. The countries that will feel the decrease in LNG shipments most are China and Asian nations. I am lucky here as the gasoline I bought for $2.25/gallon last week will be $2.60 this week. Maybe $2.75 the week after. In parts of the US where gas is more expensive consumers will feel it more.
There's mucho uncertainty. Very, very fluid.
And the price of a gallon of gasoline has already zoomed up close to $6 in parts of CA. Of course, if this theocracy dustup turns out to be a short 3- or 4-week war . . . and the U.S. ends up controlling certain swaths of Iran . . . with our overwhelming hearts-and-minds agenda opening the doors to change . . . then the rapid uptick in petro pricing could, in fact, be temporary via a relatively quick adjustment back down to average seasonal pricing at the pump.
Yet, needless to say, sometimes the best laid plans go SNAFU. And since I'm a betting man, I'd lay odds that there'll be a number of upcoming geo-political surprises . . . per unforeseen power twists . . . which will extend the turmoil for much, much longer than expected. Let's hope not. But, y'know, stuff happens.
How about plans that are not "best laid"? LOL! This administration doesn't seem to have any idea what they are doing. And once again they run into unintended consequences. No one seems to be capable of seeing beyond the end of their noses. Every first world country including our "former" allies have no idea what is going on or what comes next. And the stuff that is happening and could happen next is quite disturbing.
For decades, the USA has had restraint regarding Iran. A key reason, the strait of Hormuz. To lose 20% of all oil shipments is huge. Not good. And I don't think it will go back to 'normal' anytime soon even if the war ends quickly. And I don't think that will happen. It's a hornet's nest and now we've knocked it down. Those people are not going to just lay down. I'll just hope for a miracle. I have zero faith in the clowns running this country.
Since no boots on the ground were planned it looks like Trump thought the people would rise up and over throw the regime. More delusion on his part. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards run the country and the religious leaders are mere figure heads, puppets to appeal to the staunchly religious portion of the population. The people who wanted the theocratic regime over thrown, the majority, protested and were summarily killed. There is zero chance the population rises up against the regime. More wishful thinking and ignorance of the unintended results. It has become the hallmark of this administration.
