SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - First he traveled to China, then Washington D.C.
KSLA News 12 kept you up to date on his journey with an exclusive interview on his departure and a live phone interview once he returned to the states.
It's been a whirlwind tour for a man who wants to see the Hummer brand stay in Shreveport.
The Hummer deal still needs approval on both the province and national level in China and mayor Glover says when it comes to business with the Chinese it's all about building relationships.
One thing mayor Glover says he discussed with them is the Haynesville Shale.
The Chinese are very interested in natural gas and the mayor was quick to point out the resources right underneath our feet here in the Ark-La-Tex.
When the mayor got back from china, he stopped in Washington to discuss the General Motors situation on Capitol Hill.
He then met with intergovernmental affairs officials inside the Whitehouse to talk about the Hummer brand.
When asked about his confidence on whether the Hummer deal with the Chinese would go through, he rated it a 7.5 out of ten.
"Until it's signed, sealed, and delivered, I still will have to approach it with cautious optimism and also still be ready and continue to prepare that we may well as a region as a city as a state, have to deal with option number three which means that facility would have to be repurposed for some duty other than auto manufacturing," said mayor Glover.
The focus of the meeting in the Whitehouse was to discuss Louisiana's Tiger Grant application for $196 million that would go toward the completion of I-49.

must be getting close to election time.
I thought China already owned every thing in the US.
Who approved and paid for Glover's international lobbying tour? Are the taxpayers of Shreveport/Caddo Parish that flush with surplus $$$$$ these days?

The Chinese apparently have large cash reserves and are buying huge amounts of iron, copper, precious metals, oil and gas mineral resources world wide. Was Glover trying to talk them into buying some of "our" Haynesville mineral rights or leases? How is the Haynesville shale related to keeping a Hummer plant and jobs in Shreveport?

and they are not 4 sale to the commies! I'm sick of this nation auctioning itself off to the highest bidder.
As I don't know who Mayor Glover is, I assume that he must be either the mayor of Shreveport or Bossier City. That said, in the unlikely event that the Chinese purchasers of the Hummer decide to keep the Hummer facility in the AR-La-Tex, well and good. In the more likely event that they do not, Mayor Glover might pursue the possibility of converting the plant to a CNG heavy truck conversion operation.

If the Congress will finally pass the healthcare legislation and move on to energy considerations I would think that the NAT GAS Act (HR 1835) will get quick consideration. With someting like 80 co-sponsors signed on in the House of Reps it should pass overwhelmingly there. The Senate version of HR 1835 is S. 1408 and with bi-partisan leadership--Harry Reid and Orrin Hatch--buffered by the runaway support in the House it should get favorable treatment there as well. President Obama has supported enhanced use of natural gas and this is the way to achieve it. Essentially, the NAT GAS Act transitions the American transportation sector to natural gas fueling.

That (the transportation sector--autos, trucks, heavy equipment, busses, locomotives, etc) is where we will see the demand begin to equalize with the supply and increase prices encouraging more exploration.

If you haven't already done so contact your congressmen and women and urge their support AND ACTION on HR 1835 and S. 1408. And if you HAVE, write, call or e-mail them AGAIN. Mineral owners, royalty owners, local governments and area businesses all have much to gain in continuing the development of our massive Haynesville and Bossier shales which represents an enormous blessing to the entire East Texas/NW Louisiana area.
