BPX Drills First 4-Mile Haynesville Well, Sees Huge EUR Uplift

BPX Energy is breaking records in the Haynesville Shale, drilling the basin’s first 20,000-ft lateral and planning a new J-turn well, CEO Kyle Koontz said.

DENVER—BPX Energy, the U.S. onshore business for BP Plc, is going bigger in the Haynesville Shale than ever before.

BPX said it has drilled the first 4-mile horizontal lateral in the Haynesville basin, CEO Kyle Koontz said Aug. 18 during the 2025 EnerCom conference in downtown Denver.

I don't see a 4-mile lateral on that notice, I see 3-mile, but I am sure it happened. Amazing that they can drill that far.

Main question... what did they say about EUR? I would EUR per lateral foot would not increase, only total EUR per wellbore. Unless they have improved something to increase the latter. Do you recall any statements about EUR/foot or something?

Also, did they mention how long the lateral is for the J-turn well?

I didn't see it on the notice but I found it on a map after going through BPX's presentation from the EnerCom conference.

The well is clearly indicated on the application.  Use my link and look for the green icons.  The lateral drills south through sections 1,12 & 13 and then makes a turn to the west and drills up though Section 14.

Ryan, that is a different well you are looking at.
