George Mitchell: Hydraulic Fracturing Pioneer Turns 94...wish him well on GHS

Give your happy birthday wishes below. We will be forwarding these to him at the end of the week...

"The rise [in shale gas] has beenhelped along by a variety of factors.... But the biggest difference was down to the efforts of one man: George Mitchell, ...who saw the potential for improving a known technology, fracking, to get at the gas. Big oil and gas companies were interested in shale gas but could not make the breakthrough in fracking to get the gas to flow. Mr Mitchell spent ten years and $6m to crack the problem (surely the best-spent development money in the history of gas). Everyone, he said, told him he was just wasting his time and money."

Happy 94th birthday to a guy that figured it all out!  Hope that you have many more.

George

May you and your family prosper for generation based on the gift you have given the world.

Thank you Mr. Mitchel!

I lived through the gas lines of the early 1970's and I remember OPEC's hold on us.I've wanted to see it broken all of my adult life - but until fracing that did not seem possible.

It seems like our entire planet is floating on shale gas. Done responsibly fracking will free people around the world from any one cartel's domination. Nations like Poland are no longer under Russia's thumb. What a huge opportunity for economic freedom in those nations!

Future Americans will have a chance for jobs in this country because the cost of making goods will be lowered by the invention that you pioneered.

Your name may be remembered like Henry Ford, Edison, Hughes, Jobs and other great visionaries, inventors and businessmen.

Happy Birthday and I hope you have many, many more ...

3 replies? Really? How about we get a few more so GHS dopesn't look like the red-headed stepchild of the network? We need more. I'm emailing these to him via a employee tomorrow...

Happy Birthday!!!!!  May you have many many more.  Thank you for your courage and forethoughts.

Thank You, Mister Mitchell     Your work may pull us out of the slump - in spite of the government.

Mr. Mitchell you are a true American. Thank you for all you have done to make the Earth a better place. Happy Birthday and may you have many more.

Happy Birthday to Mr. Mitchell - while I never had the opportunity to meet you, my father knew you well, and had a fond opinion of your personal and business ethics - you have always been regarded as a "true gentleman".  And yes, you and your engineers who "unlocked" the mystery of shale hydrocarbons SHOULD go down in history as the true pioneers.  Devon, CHK, and others have certainly profited greatly from it, and should be humble and grateful to be able to follow in your footsteps in the years ahead.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SIR.

THERE ARE ALWAYS MORE NAY SAYERS THAN BELIEVERS.

I JOIN MILLIONS WHO HAVE BENEFITTED FROM YOUR EFFORTS. IN MY OPINION YOU HAVE SET AN EXAMPLE FOR GENERATIOS TO COME.

WE ARE THANKFUL THAT YOU DID IT "YOUR WAY".

And a very Happy 94th to you, Mr. Mitchell,

As a result of your efforts in developing hydrofracking technology, a portion of Mississippi that has been beset by poverty and economic stagnation for many, many years is on the brink of breaking out of that rut.  Initial results of developments in the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale look very promising.

Thank you and have a wonderful birthday and many more yet to come.

Dear Mr. Mitchell,

Thank you for proving them wrong; the world couldn't stand much more of them being "right". Your perserverance should power the world forward for another hundred years or more giving mankind time to find newer fuel sources to replace natural gas with when it has been depleted.  Happy Birthday!  May your slice of cake be a little larger than that of those who told you that you were wasting your time.

Happy birthday Mr Mitchell and my hope is for you to continue to have many more.

Your life is a fine example of one well lived. Through you and your colleagues' efforts, you all have provided all Americans, and ultimately many more people throughout vast areas of the world to achieve a greater standard of living and economic prosperity. World wide natural gas availability gives us a century or more to truly develop and implement inexhaustible energy sources.

With the enormous energy potential of methane hydrates if we can find a way to develop it as you did with shale gas, we could be set for another 100,000 years.

Bottom line: there's nothing that compares with an intelligent mind....as you have so brilliantly demonstrated. Thanks and good health for many more years.
