Code 07 is "Operations Suspended".

Thanks

Mr Peel

Could you please look at ser# 241778. Is it common to suspend drilling? "Waiting on another rig? Could it mean they are drilling 2 wells?

Thanks

Steve

This is common, Steve.  The number of rigs capable of drilling these very deep horizontal wells to total depth is limited, and they are very expensive.  Many operators bring in a "spudder rig" to drill the vertical portion of the well bore.  This is an example of 2 rigs drilling one well.

S/N 241778 which was Code 07 is now drilling as a Code 05.  Either the SWEPI staffer filing drilling reports with the Office of Conservation has a sense of humor or is real bored.  Maybe both.  LOL!  Code 05 is also rarely seen in HA well reports.  The LOC defines Code 05 as "Drilling (New drill/Re-entry/Re-permit).

Steve, most operators drill the vertical and horizontal section of the well with a single rig but a common practice by EnCana and others is to set the surface casing to ~ 2000 ft with a very small spudder rig.  These spudder rigs are truck mounted and similar to those used to drill water wells.  That is the reason you sometimes see a large time gap on Sonris between "spud" and drilling.  See Ser #241086 for an example.

The Shell well you identif used two drilling rigs and is becoming a less common practice.
