Received a warning about computer worm due April 1st. Went into Snopes to check further. It's called Conficker + other names. Leads to a link with instructions how to protect. The instructions were so long & complicated that I'll just wait & see if Microsoft can fix. What do you think?

Fox News just issued a similar warning with an addendum, some may ALREADY be infected! I'm not a computer "geek", so I can't verify the accuracy of this comment. However, apparently this is something NOT TO BE IGNORED!! Thanks, Tiger Cdo, for being "on the ball".
Looks like a Micrsoft problem
Makes a good argument to be using a Linux Ubuntu OS instead of Microsoft, huh?
Yes, that's what my bro said. I figure I'm doing great just signing on & paying for my internet service.
If your computer is kept up to date with Microsoft updates, you have nothing to worry about, the patch came out on October. Not sure what instructions you read, but installing the patch is all that is needed. Go to "Windows update" on your browser (Internet Explorer) and d/l any and all updates.

If you believe you may been infected, download this removal tool from Microsoft, install it and run it, not only will it identify and remove the Conficker worm, but others as well.

P.S.- Telling people to run Linux isn't much help to them. The reason it's a "Micrsoft problem" (Linux has no spell check I presume?) is because the majority of PC's use MS products, that's what gets attacked. If Linux was good enough to be the majority OS, then it would get targeted with worms. Sorry but you aren't offering much help to the original poster.
I been using Ubuntu for over a year and a half and have not had any malware, spyware, worms or viruses and yes there is a learning curve but it's as easy to use as Windows. (Probably easier as you don't have to constantly keep up with all those programs to protect it)(most folks don't anyway) They have updates just like windows. Tons of software for it and it's all free!! No nagging to see if your copy is legitimate!
What makes windows so vulnerable is most folks run it with admin permissions.
And sure there's spell checking if one chooses to use it! hehehe!

More info on Conficker
Looks like there are several variants!

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I did install the patch last October or whenever.
As long as you have the Microsoft Updates you will be OK.
