Hmmm - drilled to 15,825' and logged new part of hole. Set cast iron bridge plug (CIBP) @ 15,025' and dumping cement on top of plug. Note that this point is up inside the 7.625" casing and not in open hole. 

They could be temporarily abandoning the vertical well while the rig down and evaluate what they have found (in logs and samples / cores). Or this is the first plug in a set of plugs for permanent abandonment.

Or their next step is to set a whip stock above this CIBP, cut a hole in the 7.625" casing and start to drill the lateral.

Next report will be the indicator of what is happening out here.

The well is positioned up next to the Morganza Spillway guide levee for the fore bay.  So I would not be surprised that they do run a lateral out under the fore bay.  The fore base is not a place to drill a well as it is covered annually by river water, sometimes as much as 20 feet about ground level.  So yes it would be an excellent way to explore the Austin Chalk out under the forebay.  History tells us that there is oil there from LaCour #43 was drilled not to far away.  LaCour #43 has a strange history that is well known.  Many think it simply payed out and yet others think the lateral collapsed in the relatively soft chalk formation.  Somebody put up a lot of money to drill that well, so they are gonna do all they can do to make it produce oil.
