The earliest record of a permit for an oil well in Avoyelles Parish is June 19, 1920 for the Bordelon well near Goudeau. Only four wells were permitted in Avoyelles in the 1920s, with two near Cocoville and one near Fifth Ward, In 1933 the Haas oil field was discovered south of Bunkie which set off an oil boom in this part of the parish. The Haas field still produces oil today. In the 1960s, there were several wells permitted during a second oil boom for the parish. In the 1970s, much of the parish was leased for the Tuscaloosa Trend which did not fan out. In 2009, drilling began in the deeper Austin Chalk formations, with exploration of the Tuscaloosa Shale coming soon. GEOLOGICAL LAYORS BENEATH AVOYELLES: Frio ~3,000 feet; Sparta at about 6.500 ft.; Wilcox ~12,000 feet; Austin Chalk ~15,300 feet; Eagle Ford ~15,800 feet; TMS below Eagle Ford.

Hello,
I am new on this part of the site but was wondering if anyone has information on the status of the Paul 15H. Are they still in the process of fracking? The 5/31/13 entry is the last one on the SONRIS site(listed below by David Crocket). Thanks in advance.

the paul 15h reached total depth on the 17th of may and set casing on the 19th. i don't know if everything was completed on this well and they moved that rig, or if another one was moved in. we will have to defer to an expert.
Does this mean that EOG has 2 rigs working in the area now?

You are the man Skip! I really appreciate all your help. I cant say this will be the last time I will need your expertise! I will definitely look at this link and see what I can find out.
KFH, no need to make the trip if you are willing to spend some time learning your way around the LA state O&G database, SONRIS. You will find the answer to most of your questions there. And from the comfort of your home easy chair and computer. There is no requirement in LA law for an operator to inform you of their intention to drill a well. You have to exercise some due diligence to track permitting and drilling on your minerals. Use this link to get started.
Halcon is now leasing tracts around Marksville at 500 an acre and 25 percent. What is also interesting is that they appear to be leasing some smaller tracts of ten acres or so, not just the big land owners.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
