Coleen years ago the shale was a formation that broke drill bits or stuck them when they drilled into it. Today it is a different story with the new drilling technology.
What your hay supplier states makes no sense to me. I'm not sure what you are referring to as "unit maps". Each drilling and production unit approved by the state has a plat which is a map of sorts however they are organized in the state database by unit name. So you have to know the unit designation. Give me a section-township-range and if it has a unitized well, I'll send you a link to the field order which includes the plat. Not all sections have unit orders.

35X is drilling the MRD Weyerhaeuser Co 15 #1 permitted to 15,217' in the Vernon Field. The rig was 13 days drilling @11,010' on Friday, June 17. Before the Weyerhaeuser well, 35X drilled the Lamkin 4 #1 to 15,395' in the Clay Field. Both of these are vertical wells testing multiple Cotton Valley sands looking for rock qualities that are similar to that found in the Terryville Complex, Lincoln Parish.
