Chinese National Oil Company buys Half of Bridas Energy

I wonder if they got their Haynesville acreage?

Jay, Isn't Beusa part of Bridas? Not thrilled about it if they did.
"Cnooc said it would fund the Bridas deal with cash on hand. Subject to conditions, including regulatory clearance in China, the companies hope to close the deal in the first half, Cnooc said."

Though the report seems to place the emphasis on Central/South America, Cnooc is probably capable of buying anywhere and from anyone they choose thanks to all those American dollars we have been sending them the last two decades or so. Jay, any idea of the amount of Chinese steel products used in the industry?
China has made huge moves into South America the last 25 years, oil, gas, minerals, you name it, and we bought it for them.
For Cnooc's sake (I really don't care about their sake!) I hope Bridas USA drills better wells in other parts of the globe than they do in the Haynesville.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
