Monster Storm Closes in on 50 Percent Snow Cover by Christmas

There is a good chance that a major storm will hit areas from the Midwest to the Northeast this weekend adding to a snow cover that will
cover 50 percent of the country by Christmas Day.

The storm has the potential to explode into a major snowstorm that could produce in excess of 6 inches of snow over a large area of the Northeast U.S. and eastern Canada.






Bastardi is predicting that the pattern will result in over 50 percent of the country having a white Christmas which is well above the average coverage of less than 25 percent of the country which is usually
covered by snow Christmas Day.

The National Weather Service is predicting a warmer than typical winter across most of the United States. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/season...

But a white Christmas would be nice.

Loved it!

We are supposed to get more snow in Oregon this winter. Just last week I took my Forester to 4,000 feet and we had a blast driving in fresh snow.

Yeah, two weeks ago I was up in the Coast range above Tillamook hunting Elk in knee deep snow... 18 degrees ....decided to go home and sit in front of the computer and drink hot coffee! Next day, I went to the Wilson River and spent the day Steelhead fishing, had to keep de-icing my guides so that I could cast and reel. Came out of the water and the felts of my waders froze to the rocks!!!

I would love to see a good hard winter that last awhile... bring it on... I want to see the Columbia freeze over!!! I love winter... it keeps all the tourist off of the water, off of the roads and out of the woods >< (((( { *, >

p.s. I have NG heating and hot water... my generator keeps me going if the power fails and our heat stays on as long as the NG is flowing in the pipes. And if that fails, I have 6 cord of seasoned wood in the back yard!

HERE'S THE PROBLEM WITH THIS, THERE'S NO SNOW FORCAST FOR LOUISIANA WHICH IS WHERE WE'LL BE THIS YEAR. GROWING UP IN INDIANA - I NEED MY SNOW.

What area in IN did you grow up?
I remember the blizzard of 78 in central Indiana..
About half way between Lafayette and Indianapolis..

I grew up north of Lafayette actually...I think I may remember that blizzard...we had a several biggies...now where were you? Half way between Indy and Lafayette would be in the Lebannon area?

I was living in Wisconsin at the time myself, happened to be returning from E. Coast visit through Indiana, Illinois. I remember cars stuck out of piled snow you couldn't see over on the interstates coming through Chicago. I have lived several places further N than Wisconsin, and that was still one of the most impressive blizzards I have seen; if I remember correctly, this was sort of around Christmas, and the following January was incredible in Wisconsin, so cold it really got to folks.

Yep! About 7 miles north at a little place called Mechanicsburg half way between Frankfort and Lebanon. Went to Thorntown High school..

I have heard of Thorntown... Small world! Did your school play the Frankfurt Hotdogs? lol. I grew up in the Remington-Rensselaer area. Went to High School at Tri-County.

It's been a long time ago but I'm sure there were some Frankfort games.
Frankfort and Lebanon were rivals!
Thorntown high school was consolidated into Western Boone a couple of years after I graduated from there.. My younger brother went to Western Boone.
I moved south in the 80s and now cringe to think about living there in the winter time. When I lived there, I never gave it much thought though..
