Obama Starts Filling Energy Team/Reuters report

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama will nominate Steven Chu, a Nobel physics laureate and advocate of alternative energy research, as his energy secretary, a Democratic aide said on Wednesday.
Chu, who would be the first Asian-American to lead the department, would work closely with former Environmental Protection Agency chief Carol Browner, who will head a new council coordinating White House policy on energy, climate and environmental issues.
Obama, who has said energy and environmental matters would be important to his administration, is filling out the team that will oversee them.
He wants to spend billions of dollars to promote alternative energy sources and create millions of green energy jobs.
Lisa Jackson, the chief of staff for New Jersey's governor, will also be nominated to head the Environmental Protection Agency, a Democratic aide confirmed. She would be the first African-American to lead that agency.
Earlier, a Democratic official said Obama had chosen Nancy Sutley, a deputy mayor of Los Angeles, to head the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
Browner, a principal at global strategy firm The Albright Group LLC, heads Obama's advisory team on energy and the environment. During President Bill Clinton's administration, she became the longest-serving EPA administrator.
Chu, whose appointment requires U.S. Senate confirmation, shared the 1997 Nobel Prize in physics for developing methods to cool and trap atoms with laser light and has been director of the Energy Department's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California since 1994.
The laboratory's website said Chu was an early advocate for finding scientific solutions to climate change and had guided the laboratory on a new mission to become the world leader in alternative and renewable energy research, particularly the development of carbon-neutral sources of energy.
A spokesman for the Lawrence Berkeley laboratory said of Chu's selection: "We don't really know about it. Whatever contacts the Obama people have had with Steve Chu, he kept it offline from the laboratory."
Chu could not be reached for comment. He is traveling in Asia and Europe and will be back at work on Monday.
Jackson was New Jersey's environmental protection commissioner until she became the governor's chief of staff this month. She previously worked at the federal EPA for almost two decades.

Here's a thought ... EWE & Martha on the energy team. EWE can get us the deals, Martha can keep us up to speed about when to buy low, sell high, and in the meantime feature the GHS Pirate rsp on her show as a craft idea for how to embellish. And, Earl can be the guest craft person that demonstrates how to embellish. Then, we can make a "Joe" cartoon out of it.

Hello Mr. Jim,
I feel that because it deals directly with the energy needs of this country and our future as mineral owners that it fits O.K., here on the main board were more could see it and hopefully be as informed as we can be concerning this issue.
Whats with the bigot forum part ? Did I miss something in the article ? There certainly isnt room for any junk like that on this site. I have to deal with that mess too much during the day to have to listen to it at night as well.

It may be for the political forum but It may be for everyone to read because it would change our constitution thereby affecting everyone. I for one think that contracts and agreements between individuals should be dealt with by the individual states. Regional government is better served by the closeness of individual thought. Different ideas exist throughout the country. Why should we give in to something that we don't believe in on a local level. To change the whole constitution of the USA would be a wrong to the country as a whole.

We as a nation have elected a Black man for President. That has to speak volumns of the steps that have been made to erase some of the terrible differences shown to different races of people. Civil rights groups had to fight long and hard to make the leaps that have been made. In time, hopefully there wont be a need to have to play the race card any longer.
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are the rights of all men. That does not however give you the right to infringe upon others while you attempt your pursuit . Nor does it give you the right to change the document that gave you those liberties in the first place to suit your needs because of the manner in which you chose to live.
Why in the world would you blame Jesus for the gay movments problems when California is about the most heathenistic place on the planet outside of Sodom & Gomorrah.Homosexuality isnt a civil right protected by the constitution nor should it be.If it were the norn, the human race couldnt even exist. Everyone has the right to be selfdestructive as long as you arent breaking any laws.That doesnt make it right nor does it make it smart. Abnormal behavior simply doesnt exist on the same plain as an inalienable right. Changing the constitution to seem more friendly to that cause by making the actions of those justifiable , will never make it anything other than abnormal behavior and open Pandoras Box.

Energy costs balance out here, too. Spring & fall weather don't require much AC or heat. Another utility more precious would be water. CA is always conserving due to drought, especially below central CA. I believe part of what drs., dentists, etc. charge is based on their overhead, and with what wages are here that would decrease that cost. Landscape plants ... probably lower in CA because it's not in big demand, not as many varieties that can be planted there. Homestead exemption in CA is probably higher because property values are so much higher. I've researched properties out there similar to mine, they're going for 3X or 4X the value of mine. Also, here property taxes can be frozen for elderly. And those services that operate 24/7 cost the taxpayer, which explains why taxes are so high. Here it may take longer, but we try to get it done right, at the right price, with minimal impact. Live in a concrete jungle? Not me.
