Hey Ronny, did you look on DNR in last couple of days? Indigo is coming from Bethany Longstreet into Holly Field (north) in 14/14 Desoto also. This tells me that there has to be liquids in between there too. VERY positive

HC wells are the new design of choice for tight formations in LA.  Why leave unstimulated rock behind in every section?  The advantages of HC wells benefit the operator, the royalty interests and the state.

Skip, it was a little over a yr. ago when Indigo started their Liquid drilling and everyone thought the liquids were in a narrow band coming across south Caddo and hitting western LA & eastern Tx and going south. Now it seems Indigo is applying to drill CULs all over Desoto. What has changed since a yr. ago

Indigo has been drilling horizontal CV wells in their liquids fairway for a couple of years.  This is the third HC alternate unit well application that I have noted in the last few months.  None of these HC wells have been permitted yet.  I disagree that Indigo is drilling "all over DeSoto".  Indigo is following the industry trend to drill HC or CUL wells but are doing so in their established fairway.  As a reminder of the extent of that fairway here is a map from a corporate presentation.  It's a little dated but still accurate as to the area that Indigo thinks is prospective for liquids.  I have added the township and range numbers to make it easier to understand the area being depicted. Their well results to date have been somewhat inconsistent and not sufficient for them to attract a major or mid-major operator.  Click on the map to enlarge.

Indigo has applied to drill sections 5 & 8 in T13 R14. Today I was reading that they are now applying to drill north of this into T14/R14--mainly the Cotton Valley that Indigo has bought from El Paso. These areas are way east of the very initial projection of where Indigo said the liquids were. The initial maps showed a swath of productive area coming from east to west and paralleling the Caddo-Desoto lines and then head parallel to Sabine River

RONNY's pre-conference notice letter is for S13 & 24 - 15N - 15W.  The first Indigo alternate unit HC well application is for S15 & 22 - 14N - 16W.  Both are located in the fairway shown above.  13N - 14W and 14N - 14W do represent a step out but until those wells are reported complete we won't know if they are an extension of the liquids fairway.

Skip:  A big thank you for adding the townships and ranges to the maps posted (like this one and the Bossier Shale map last week).  For those of us without land maps but who are NW La "born and raised," having that data so we don't have to guess is very helpful.

I would encourage anyone who is interested in the Cotton Valley to check out some of the recent presentations that came out from the operators in the area, MRD specifically. Lots of good information and just shows that there are multiple fairways in which there is sufficient liquids production to make compelling economic sense...

Any area with demonstrated economic quantities of hydrocarbons and sufficiently low permeability may be a candidate for horizontal development.  And that goes for formations other than the CV/LCV.  Wildhorse is testing the Hosston formation on some of their acreage.

The MRD/Wildhorse presentation is a good example of the potential of "tight conventional" reservoirs.  The caveat is the fact that these "conventional" reservoirs are not continuously productive over large areal extents.  The list of MRD's impressive Lincoln Parish wells are a good example.  Every well on their list is drilled in a foot print that is 4 miles by 6 miles.
